Professor Michael Strauss speaks to us about the Guantanamo Naval Base. The history is interesting--from the genesis of the lease idea as an alternative to annexation, to its negotiation and some of its peculiar terms. The history of US -Cuba relations around the Naval Base from the amendments of the 1930s to the more contentious relationships after 1959 is explored.

Your Gonzalez Hernandez, a Cuban lawyer spending a year at Penn State is interviewed about COVID-19 in Cuba and the Caribbean.  He speaks to issues of Cuban responses, to Cuba's efforts to provide medical assistance abroad, and to issues of internal economic consequences to Cuba in its tourism and pharma sectors following economic consequences of downturn in global economic activity and the upsurge in the need for drug therapies against the disease.
