The Criterion Quest

Tom and Chris are baffled and bored with the company they find themselves with while sitting around a train station. They get caught up in an average affair between an Italian scholar and an American wife trying to decide if she should follow her head or her heart.

Tom & Chris start the new year with the return of their friend Colleen, as the three make their way through the streets of Rome with an elderly gentleman and his dog trying to make sense of the changing world around them and find their place within it.

Tom & Chris ring in the new year by taking a little break from the collection to discuss some of the new films from 2018 they enjoyed.

For their 200th outing Tom & Chris (and Colleen briefly) find themselves on the road with a pair of serial killers who prey on women through the classified ads.

After the heartfelt romance they got swept up in, Tom & Chris find themselves now dealing with a strange world of miscommunication as they follow a poor working class schlub, a bizarre exterminator and a strange cult leader.

After their last harrowing outing in Germany, Tom & Chris find themselves now in a post-war/post-terrorism world fuelled by pressure and fear. However, they connect with an older woman and her new young, immigrant lover as they try to make sense of the world they find themselves.

After reconciling with the drudgery of the working world, Tom & Chris find themselves involved in an intense relationship between a French actress and a Japanese architect contemplating life, love and memories. After this brief tryst, they find themselves confronted with the horrors of what mankind is capable of.

Following their sordid and baffling murder mystery encounter in Paris, Tom & Chris make their way to Italy where they become invested in the working lives of two men, one at the beginning of his professional career and the other who’s at a crossroads.

As the train pulls out of Latvia Tom & Chris head for postwar Paris where they become entangled in a murder investigation involving a piano player, his singer wife and their photographer friend. The boys also get caught up discussing toothbrush moustaches and the mad adventures of Rabbi Jacob.

Following their somewhat misguided outing into the punk wasteland of Britain, Tom & Chris find themselves in the thick of the Russian Civil War, encountering a love triangle of sorts as an officer continues to rebuff the advances of a young woman.
