Matthew 1:23 announces the birth of Jesus saying, “‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).”

The God of the universe, the One who created us, came down to us. He tasted thirst and felt hunger. He shivered in the cold and laid His head on the bare ground to sleep. He wept with friends overwhelmed by grief and watched as everyone walked away from Him in His darkest hour.

His ministry was unexpected — modeled after a humble servant instead of a stately king. Matthew summarized His mission saying:

“This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:

‘Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope’” (Matthew 12:17 – 21, emphasis added).

No pomp or proclamations. Jesus spent His ministry among the sick, outcast, and isolated. He came to bring hope to those who had none.

And as His followers, we can share His eternal hope with those around us and around the world.

There are at least two instances in the Bible where lying produced a favorable result. For example, the lie the Hebrew midwives tell Pharaoh seems to result in the Lord’s blessing on them (Exodus 1:15-21), and it probably saved the lives of many Hebrew babies. Another example is Rahab’s lie to protect the Israelite spies in Joshua 2:5. It is important to note, however, that God never condones these lies. Despite the “positive” outcome of these lies, the Bible nowhere praises the lies themselves. The Bible nowhere states that there are instances where lying is the right thing to do. At the same time, the Bible does not declare that there is no possible instance in which lying is an acceptable option.

God's hand is always moving, meaning He is always at work, in our lives because God is sovereign over all life. Man may make plans but it is God who determines his steps (Proverbs 16:9). God's sovereign reign extends from the rise and fall of kings and nations to the very numbering of our days and hairs on our heads (Proverbs 21:1; Job 12:23; Psalm 47:8; Psalm 139:16; Matthew 10:30).

One of the first things you need to understand is that God has given you gifts to use for His glory. Yes, you!!! You may be thinking to yourself, “I am not important enough for God to give me a gift, skill, or a talent.” God created you for the purpose of His Kingdom going forward. He has enabled you to reach people that no one else can, and it is the giftings He has given to you that accomplishes it. Romans 12:6 says, “having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them.”

Our God is victorious. He always wins. He has never lost a battle. He has no equal to challenge His sovereignty.

Father, even the disciples that walked with Jesus needed to strengthen their faith. Jesus told them if their faith was only the size of a mustard seed, they could uproot trees and crumble mountains. Lord, I need more faith like the disciples. Increase my faith and make me a mover of mountains. Grow my belief in You alone so that I would be strong in the Lord and ready to battle against the doubts planted by the enemy. Lord, increase my faith!
