This week's feature question on The Advisory:
I have been living in my apartment for about 1 year and the downstairs neighbor moved in about 1 month ago. Ever since she moved in, she made 3 noise complaints against me already. While I understand her struggle, I really don't think it is me. I am not sure how to convince her that I am not making those loud noises.
Her complaints are heavy footsteps and constant sound of something falling/striking the floor. She said she woke up multiple times in the middle of the night because of something striking the floor even with ear plugs.
Walls are thin in the building, and I also hear footsteps all the time, so I think 'heavy footsteps' is possible.. But I am certainly not dropping something at 2 am-3am in the morning every week because I am also sleeping during the time frame.
My lifestyle hasnt changed, and previous downstair neighbor or anyone has ever made noise complaint for the past year. Also, I have never heard any loud noise during 2am-3am time frame. If it is indeed from me, it would be much louder in my unit and certainly wake me up if it is waking up someone with earplugs downstairs.
Now that the management is involved and they are not even hearing my side. I am not sure what to do. Is breaking the contract and moving the only way?
