The Curious Roots of Joy

Listen Later

I’m just flat-out tired of bad news. It’s not the only feeling I have, but it does keep showing up. It’s like soul-weariness. Maybe it’s akin to grief, which can be tiring even when it’s good. Now…I don’t want to paint a whole community with my emotional brush, but my thought is that we could all use a bit of a “pick-me-up”, and that the best path toward that needs to be honest about the challenges as well as the delights. Which points me toward topics like joy, resilience, and love. So I thought I would start with trees. (Didn’t see that coming, did you?)

For reasons that I hope will become clearer as we go, spiritual sages often seem to find trees a helpful metaphor when it comes to exploring our interior lives. And, of course, that includes things like joy and strength, as well as grief and weariness. So that’s where we’ll be headed during the Talky Bit on Sunday – into the woods.

Now…WHERE will we be on Sunday? Well, a bit of hard news in that regard. We finally heard back from Creative Manitoba (thank you Brent for chasing them down), who have reconfigured both some aspects of their business and their rooms which means it is no longer possible for us to meet there. I’m disappointed, for sure. I have a lot of fond memories of our time at Creative. However, I also recall what a happy surprise it was to enter that space for the first time when I had no previous idea it even existed, and that helps me to look forward to discovering our next place. If you have any ideas or connections with people that might have ideas, please send them my way. In the meantime, we’ll meet online again this week.
We’ll meet here at 10:45 a.m. for music and Community Time, then on to the Talky Bit. Not pre-recorded this time.    I’m looking forward to that!

And, breaking a long dry spell, we’ll follow up with And Lunch After at 12:30! I’m very much looking forward to catching up with whoever can drop by. I’ll put the URL at the bottom of this email.

See you on Sunday!
Peace,
Tim Plett
