In Victorian times most childbirths occurred at home with a doctor or midwife present. The father was left out of the picture, unless he was needed to run for the doctor or supplies. In this story a prim and proper shopkeeper goes through a rugged personality change as his wife enters labor and he is left totally out of the picture,
