The CXC Podcast Episode #41: Bringing Life Back to Comics with Jonathan Borden and B.A.R. Publishing

Listen Later

Digital is not the end for the indie comic world. In fact, there’s a whole new level from which creators can get exposure, Do you wish your comics had more movement? How about working with professional voice actors? Maybe your comic needs a soundtrack? Take a listen to this interview and learn how Jonathan Borden is bringing life back to indie by being “the motion comics guy.”
Jonathan is taking original creations and blending them with film and television in a way that is affordable for comic makers. The world is headed in a virtual reality direction, and so why not get ahead of the game? If you wanna talk dedication, Jonathan was originally going to be a doctor of neuroscience. Instead, he dropped out to be a fulltime nerd based on his passionate belief in B.A.R. Publishing. Black Salt and Elysium: Origins  is just the beginning. Motion comics are not meant as a replacement but simply a new way to experience the awesomeness of indie in an affordable way. He’s got hands in all aspects of the creative/marketing process and connections that extend well beyond typical expectation. What started as an early childhood drive making stories with sound effects has crashed the gates of cons across the country and even hollywood.
To Jonathan, patience is everything. Don’t rush your art. Take the time to find the edge that allows your comic to stand out on its own. Drama makes storytelling easier. Jonathan is no stranger to intensity. His love of comics was stirred in the cauldron of trauma. He grew up in a very abusive household and comics was a release for him and his brother Ron. He had to take care of his brother growing up, and their comic collection was the glue that held them together. Later, when his daughter was born, 4 days after her birth he introduced her to  Superman: The Animated Series and it was love at first site. From then on it was all about mutual success. For Jonathan, it’s not about the money, it’s about the handshake. If anyone out there wants to understand how passion leads to relationships look no further than Jonathan Borden. We can learn a lot from him about how an open, cultivated heart leads to a business you love one connection at a time.
