The Dad Business

The biggest worry for me is that I am no good as a Dad.

Is it a rational thought?

Well it comes into focus when your child turns 18 and becomes an adult because that's it - your job of raising a child is done!

And the results are in...you were...?

Good? Brilliant? Average? Rubbish?

It may be that only time will tell.

But if you could go back in time and give yourself some advice, what would that advice be?

In this episode I look back (and forward) and consider the 3 things that I would love to have really been able to understand and do more of if I could have gone back in time.

They start ok but then it splits a family, don't they?

Maybe not all of them...

I am joined by my brother-in-law Richard Hepworth to find out the secret to growing and running a family business.

And because it is The Dad Business, how he manages to do business, family and compete in IronMan competitions. 

Impossible? Not so according to Richard - focus is what you need.

Other key lessons include recruit and build a team to grow the business and do it sooner than we did!

We walk through the book by Brian Tracy called 'Eat That Frog' - it's all about being productive, focused and time efficient. 

Do you do any of what he suggests already? Maybe it's a few, maybe it's none. Whatever it is I am sure you could benefit from some of them!

There is no easy way to dress this episode up. When someone you know, who is in the Dad Business, dies then it stops you in your tracks and makes you think.

I have thought about sharing this episode for months and finally I have chosen to share it. I don't know if that is the right thing to do but difficult topics sometimes mean a difficult choice.

This episode is a little bit longer than normal but I didn't want it any shorter. In fact there were so many other rabbit holes I wanted to explore but didn't - there will have to be a next time :)
