Two dads compare old-school childhood with parenting today—from a 10-hour ride in a pickup truck bed to setting boundaries, choosing consequences, and teaching kindness. Episode 2 also tackles adult screen time, doomscrolling, AI conversations, and making room for family, with detours into flying, Air Force One, and a father-son Yankees trip.
What changes when the kid with the wild childhood stories becomes the dad setting the rules?
Episode 2 of The Dad Show Unfiltered starts with a 10-hour ride in a pickup truck bed on a bean bag. That memory opens the door to a bigger conversation about parenting then vs. now: what we grew up with, what we question today, and what we want our kids to carry into adulthood.
We discuss discipline, consequences, and the difference between being a parent and being a buddy. The conversation includes candid views on spanking and school corporal punishment, along with examples of taking away privileges and recognizing that different kids respond differently.
The goal underneath it all is raising good humans—kids who can stand up for what’s right, read the room, and notice when someone needs help. A moment helping an older woman on New York subway stairs becomes a concrete example of what that lesson looks like in everyday life.
Before we get there, we look at our own habits. Doomscrolling takes time, and setting social media limits can create a useful reminder to put the phone down. We talk about working more efficiently to make room for family, as well as using AI for practical help and personal conversation.
We also revisit claims from Episode 1, share family tech frustrations, and take a few very unfiltered detours: a proposed whirlwind New York trip, short flights versus long drives, faith and flying, listening to Air Force One on air traffic control radio, and a father-son Yankees trip with unexpected hotel costs.

CONTENT NOTE
This episode contains strong language, discussion of spanking and corporal punishment, references to violence, and frank discussion of crashes, death, and disability. Parenting views are the hosts’ personal perspectives. Technology claims, travel anecdotes, and speculative discussion should not be treated as independently verified guidance. Episode 1 of The Dad Show Unfiltered goes down the AI rabbit hole: artificial intelligence, AI relationships, parenting and technology, privacy, doomscrolling, autonomous vehicles and what all this convenience might actually cost us.
Can AI be an incredible tool without replacing real relationships, privacy and the skills we increasingly hand over to technology?
Episode 1 of Unfiltered starts with podcast production and a trip to Nashville’s 3686 conference, then turns into a wide-open conversation about artificial intelligence, parenting, privacy, doomscrolling, autonomous vehicles, digital pricing, satellites, data centers, and the future of work.
Can AI be a useful assistant without becoming a substitute for real relationships? Are we paying for convenience with our attention and personal data? What happens when a business becomes dependent on one AI platform? And why do parents set screen-time limits for their kids but rarely set the same boundaries for themselves?
This is an unscripted conversation built around questions, personal experiences, predictions, and rabbit holes—not a technical or legal briefing. Some ideas discussed are speculative or recalled from other media and should not be treated as verified claims.
Topics include AI companions, humanoid robots, teen communication, AI agents, Apple and ChatGPT, data privacy, surveillance, connected cars, personalized pricing, online shopping, Waymo, autonomous delivery, EMPs, quantum computing, data-center cooling, Starlink, space debris, productivity, and healthier screen habits.
