The greatest surprise about the new live-action Aladdin film is that it’s not a total disaster. We’re not sure what three wishes director Guy Ritchie used to rescue a production that was smothered by a magic carpet of bad buzz, from whitewashing casting controversies to Disney fans collectively aghast at the first look of Will Smith as the film’s iconic blue Genie.

“I once brought a jackass and a honeycomb into a brothel.” Those were some of the last words spoken on Game of Thrones, the series hailed as one of the best dramas ever on TV, and perhaps the last major television cultural phenomenon we’ll have, at least in the traditional sense. (Caution: Major spoilers ahead.) It sort of happens like a horror show.

CANNES, France—According to the lingo of the entertainment industry, Robert Eggers’s new film The Lighthouse, which premiered at Cannes on Sunday as part of the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar, is a “long-awaited” follow-up to The Witch, the director’s innovative debut horror film.

The hot priest changes everything, helping Fleabag not necessarily find God, but, perhaps more significantly, find herself.

The thing about an OK glass of wine is that, sure it’s not the best, but it’s still going to make your day more enjoyable. You could even argue that it’s easier to enjoy, because there’s no pressure to savor it or appreciate it or identify the notes of vanilla, green apple, and jasmine.
