The Daily Beast Obsessed

“While we’re all trying to do the most to stay sane during the pandemic, the president is doing literally the least,” Samantha Bee says at the top of her latest episode of Full Frontal from the woods behind her house. In this exclusive clip from the late-night show, which will air in full Wednesday night on TBS, Bee turns her focus to one group of essential workers “who really need our protection right now”: the U.S. Postal Service.

One perk of being a man in Hollywood? Apparently it means you can walk off the job for over a week and blame a “thyroid issue.” At least, that’s what Olivia Munn says Bryan Singer did while working on 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. “I never shot a huge movie like that before,” Munn told Variety in an interview published Tuesday.

Paul Mescal didn’t think he’d be talking this much about his penis. Well, he knew he would be talking about it some. The nudity and the sex scenes in Normal People would be of natural interest to people. They’re integral to the new Hulu series just as they were integral to the blockbuster 2018 Sally Rooney novel from which the show is adapted. But this? This is a whole other thing. About his thing. Over and over again.

To understand how a cult operates, one need look no further than the nightly news, where a charismatic strongman messiah preaches to his acolytes that he’s the only bulwark against a conspiratorial evil enemy, and then convinces them to behave in ways that are antithetical to their best interests.

It is almost too on-the-nose that, in the year 2020, a former star of the Real Housewives franchise is arguably doing more to fight the coronavirus pandemic than the actual president of the United States. But here we are, once again repeating what has become our daily mantra since she first entered our lives 15 years ago under the watchful eye of Martha Stewart: Thank God for Bethenny Frankel. Along with her disaster relief initiative BStrong, Frankel has managed to raise $4.

Sometimes when you least suspect it, life sends you a “Halleloo!” Shangela Laquifa Wadley—given name Darius Jeremy Pierce—was working the streets, so to speak, of Twin Falls, Idaho, a small city of 40,000 people in an area of the country so remote it also happens to be the largest city in a 100-mile radius.

“I’m just a girl who cain’t say no…” Allison Janney has broken out into song. This one is from the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Oklahoma!, sung by the coyly promiscuous Ado Annie—a role for which, when you think about it, Janney would have been perfect casting once upon a time. Don’t worry. The dire state of quarantine hasn’t spiraled to spontaneous showtune combustion, at least not yet.

Netflix’s The Midnight Gospel—the latest from Adventure Time mastermind Pendleton Ward and comedian and podcaster extraordinaire Duncan Trussell—is not an animated show that’s easily explained.

Michael Jordan is the best basketball player that’s ever lived, period. For those foolish enough to debate that incontrovertible fact, ESPN’s The Last Dance puts any lingering doubts to rest.

There’s been plenty of good, or at least addicting, content to consume this past month, but what this quarantine has been sorely missing is an event. You know, give the couch a little something fancy to perk up for. Turn that six feet of walking space from the kitchen to the living room into a premiere red carpet. The 18 hours of TV watching per day needs a modicum of gravity! Trolls World Tour was a salve for families.
