“The leech has two daughters— Give and Give! There are three things that are never satisfied, Four never say, “Enough!”: The grave, The barren womb, The earth that is not satisfied with water— And the fire never says, “Enough!” The eye that mocks his father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it.” - Proverbs 30:15-17 NKJV
What does it mean to be a consuming Fire?
I had the opportunity this weekend to be around a campfire whenever we decided to light it, and even sometimes when we weren’t expecting it to get lit. You know … hot embers catch dry wood on fire, even if it doesn’t appear to be hot.
It amazes me how much stuff we put into the fire pit, and how little remained.
The way the fire breaks down what gets caught in it is simply amazing. Pizza boxes, water bottles, firewood, pine needles, leaves, pine cones… anything you can think of, when it’s burned the manner in which it gets broken down to its most basic component… dust
The heat the fire gives off radiates, causes you to tread lightly, forces you to stay attentive to the little pops/explosions, even just sitting here next to it as I’m typing up some thoughts, the hair is cinged on my shins and the back of my phone case has gotten nearly scorched.
