The Town of Rhinebeck and the Sisters of St. Ursula have formally agreed to work together to find a purchaser for the religious order’s prime 51-acre piece of property on the Hudson River known as the Linwood Spiritual Center. The Town of Red Hook has taken the first step on the long road to potentially lowering Town speed limits. On Sept. 9, the Town Board approved hiring an engineering firm to study the current limits on all Town-owned roads. The firm, Creighton Manning, will assess the safety of the current limit of 35 miles per hour (mph) by gathering data on past accidents and average driver speeds. The northern portions of the parking lot next to the Amtrak Rhinecliff station will be repaved next week, leaving approximately 220 of the 270 parking spots unavailable for use for multiple days, a railroad spokesman confirmed Tuesday. Eleanor Castello, 89, died on Sept. 14, 2025, at the Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park. Born on Nov. 22, 1935, in Brooklyn, Eleanor married Nicholas Castello 71 years ago. Eleanor was an interior designer for Total Look in Woodbury, Long Island, for over 44 years. Eleanor was devoted to family traditions, friends, and cooking.
