City of Joburg Mayor Dr. Mpho Phalatse has denied that her administration is purging staff members who are politically aligned to the ANC which was running the metro until the November 2021 local elections. The City sent letters to about 130 employees last week asking them to make representations after it emerged that their contracts were allegedly irregularly converted from fixed term to permanent. Dr. Phalatse says these were political appointees who employment was linked to the term of office of the political leadership at the time.
