The Black Business Council held its summit yesterday calling for 70% of the economy to be transferred into black hands by 2030. They go on to say that transforming the economy should be a priority for the government and its social partners as it tries to take the country into a recovery path from the Covid-19 pandemic. The KwaZulu-Natal Government has signed a landmark agreement with the Egyptian headquartered export-import bank, Afremix. This comes as the province continues to reposition itself as a gateway to Africa and a meaningful participant in the African Continental Free Trade Area. Last week, the investment entity of government, Trade and Investment KZN hosted a dialogue on unlocking the opportunities for the Province presented by the continent’s market of 1 point 3 billion people with a combined gross domestic product of 3,4 trillion dollars. But the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic and lack of investment in infrastructure could inhibit the positive sentiment permeating the province right now.
