For more than two months on this programme a day would never go by without a story about the Eastern Cape. Sadly it’s never good. We’ve managed to invite some of the leadership to answer questions with no satisfactory answers. Well today we speak to Karyn Maughan who wrote a feature in the Financial Mail summarizing corruption in the Eastern Cape. Karyn now joins us on the line to give some perspective on why this province in particular seems to be the worst when it comes to corruption…

The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) has painted a grim picture of the sector. In a briefing earlier today the Council says the sector is on its knees as it tries to restore hope. Furthermore the council says government has run out of money to fund the industry. In April minister of tourism Mmamaloko Kubayi- Ngubane announced a Covid-19 Tourism relief fund of 200 Million Rands. The sector now says it is exploring its legal options against government to force it to operate fully. The industry is not fully operational and some sectors have been granted permission to operate. Yesterday, in honour of former South African president Kgalema Motlanthe, his foundation hosted a Virtual Dialogue. The main lecture was delivered by Dr Pali Lehohla. He spoke about how the Covid-19 pandemic has forced the world to embrace change. He further urged South Africa to demonstrate a quick response to the pandemic in a way that says this cannot be business as usual.

Yesterday the State Capture Commission Chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo heard testimony from former Environmental Affairs, Nomvula Mokonyane. Among other things, judge Zondo questioned why former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi would go to great lengths to pretend that he was familiar with Mokonyane's home. Mokonyane was being questioned about alleged work done to her home by the company including the instalment of CCTV cameras and other security equipment..
