What are some of the problems faced by African widows, particularly South Africans? Women, who have lost husbands, tend to find themselves at the mercy of their in-laws, especially in black communities. Some widowed women from various cultural groups are subjected to abuse, marginalized by patriarchal in-laws and exploited through cleansing rituals and others having property taken away from them.
