Ms Duarte is the former South African High Commissioner to Mozambique, former provincial secretary of the Federation of Transvaal Women. She was once a banned person, a political detainee, Chief Operations Officer in the Presidency and previously the National Spokesperson for the ANC, and member of the ANC NEC. For some time government has been calling for input from the private sector and individuals to assist the country on issues of job creation. And yes, if you listen to the news, some have heeded government’s call. Individuals have also come forward with suggestions to try and assist. One of those is Mpho Muthubi who is a social entrepreneur has written an open letter to the president with suggestions that he believes with advance employment in the country. However he says his letter fell on deaf ears. He has since sent it to the SAfm team and to talk us through it, he now joins us on the line…

This week on Workers on Wednesday we discuss the problem of sexual harassment at the workplace. Many women workers are regularly subjected to this unsavoury and oppressive form of behaviour by their male colleagues, especially those who are in higher positions to them. Because of high unemployment, many women are also forced into sexual relations with their employers in order to obtain and keep their jobs. How widespread is the problem of sexual harassment at the workplace and what can we do to eradicate it?

Former members of the SABC interim board say they stand by their decision to award a 185-million rand tender to the company that scored the second-highest. The board is now under fire from the Special Investigating Unit which found that they acted irregularly in awarding the tender. The SIU says the interim board failed to give sufficient reasons why they chose the second bidder instead of considering other options. In their report, the SIU wants them to be declared delinquent and for the money lost to the SABC to be recovered. Khanyisile Kweyama, Febe Potgieter-Gqubule, Mathatha Tsedu, Krish Naidoo and John Matisonn held a media briefing in Sandton, Johannesburg yesterday to outline their plan of action…
