Don is back in Fortnite as Reboot, and after spending hours editing and repeatedly watching the recent Massena data center meetings, it’s time for a more seasoned reaction.

Don starts by thanking David Fenton and former Massena Mayor James Hidy for reaching out with positive feedback about his coverage. Despite coming at Massena’s future from different perspectives, Don appreciates the conversation.

Then comes the question that continues to bother him: Who will actually be around to keep the promises being made today?

When a data center representative was questioned about promises made eight years ago, he explained that he couldn’t speak for them because he wasn’t there. Don understands that answer—but points out the obvious problem: there’s a pretty good chance that same representative won’t be there eight years from now when residents want answers about today’s promises.

Don also acknowledges the other side of the debate. Massena needs revenue. Massena needs jobs. Massena needs economic development. He understands why people like James Hidy see a major development as an opportunity for a struggling community.

But understanding that argument doesn’t mean believing this particular data center, from this particular company, is the right answer.

Then the episode takes a much lighter turn…
