With the arrest of the 2024 presidential election winner Calin Georgescu on the grounds of “rejecting the EU and NATO,” and being “pro-Russian,” Romania, and the EU as a whole, has officially become a one-party Soviet state. These are invented “crimes” that exist because the System needs them to. There is no law. His arrest (and the detention of several others) imply that only liberal and leftist candidates may run for office in the country.
