The news is flooded with various opinions in regards to Trump’s tariff policies, especially when it comes to China. Under normal circumstances the country with the trade deficit will benefit from imposing tariffs, while the country with the trade surplus will not. However this is assuming that the country with the trade deficit has a substantial manufacturing capacity.
According to the narrative, the reason that American automakers are struggling is because they have been too slow to give the people what they want: namely EVs. Cadillac is axing one of its cookie cutter SUV models supposedly because it “only” get’s 21mpg in the city. Of course this story intentionally ignores the fact that Cadillac’s front-line seller is the massive Escalade.
