Starting in 1990, a strange and obscure group was suddenly front page news throughout the western world. This almost entirely unknown group – the Kurds – was said to be the victim of horrid persecution in Turkey and Iraq. From then on, the general bias in their favor has been the norm in the west, and it is generally assumed that the claims of mass persecution were and are correct. The Kurdish movement merely seek “human rights.” The facts however, are quite different, especially when it comes to the main political and military body of the Kurdish movement, the “Kurdistan Workers' Party” (Partiya Karkeren Kurdistane, or PKK).
