When someone speaks what they believe is a word from God, it is typically referred to as a "prophetic word" - meaning they are delivering a message they believe is directly from God to you.

1 John 4:1-3

1. Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

In Judges 6:36-40, we find the story of Gideon and the fleece, in which Gideon tests God by putting out a fleece of wool on the threshing floor.

God wants us to personally know Him and recognize His voice when He speaks to us, so that we do not have to depend on anyone else's voice.

People say "Let The Spirit Be Your Guide." First of all, what spirit?

People have done horrific things, saying that God told them to do it. The question is, what god directed them to do it? Remember: Satan is the god of this world.

Discerning God's voice:

1. First, you must be a believer and have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
2. Being a believer comes with benefits; John 10:27: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

As you draw closer to God in prayer and bible study, meditating on His Word, you will begin to recognize God's voice, along with the sense of peace and comfort that comes with hearing His voice.

The more time that you spend studying and meditating on God's Word, the easier it is to recognize His voice.

Have you ever attempted to share wisdom with someone or give directions to someone to a place that you have visited many times? With some people, it is like talking to a brick wall and no matter what you say, they just won't listen.

Well, now you know how God feels.

If you ask ten people what the most important word in the Bible is, most will say that it's faith and others will say it's love.

I submit to you that the number 1 word in the Bible is OBEDIENCE!

Think about it for a minute; can you imagine what kind of world this would be if everyone would just be OBEDIENT?

In the midst of transtions, difficult situations may arise. God can use them for good in the lives of those who love and trust Him. God promises that for those who love Him and those that are the called according to His purpose, all things will work together for their good, even though at the time, things may seem to be working against them. Do not waver but stand firmly on God's promises to you.

We can now look at circumstances, trials and tests as opportunities to see God move miraculously in our lives

It's critically important that you know that God has directed you in making a life transition. You will be tried and tested, but as long as you know you have clearly heard God's voice, take a firm stand in spite of all that comes against you, knowing that God will always see you through. People will fail you, but God never fails.

When you face a major life transition, know that change is inevitable. Know that your emotions will be tried and tested. So, build a strong support system of people you love and trust. Plan ahead, take care of yourself physically and mentally because you will experience discomfort as you embark upon your new life transtion.
