The Dan York Report

Snapchat went down today and millions of teens and other young people suddenly found themselves without their primary means of communication...

As I mapped out my plans for 30 podcasts in 30 days, I realized I had not asked YOU, the listeners, what you would like to hear. What is of interest? Thoughts on new technologies? Explanations of parts of the Internet? Reflections on the early days of the Internet? Memories of the Linux Professional Institute (LPI)? Thoughts on social networks? Work information about curling? Software apps? New Hampshire? Books? What would you like to hear me talk about?

Why do I think curling is a great sport for youth? I talk about the many great aspects of youth curling: skills, strength, stamina, strategy, communication, confidence and more...

We’re heading to the Washington, DC, area today for my 15yo daughter to play in a curling bonspiel. In this episode I talk about what we are doing and why we are going. (Listen to show #337 for more info about bonspiels.)

Today (Nov 1) marks the start of National Podcast Post Month (NaPodPoMo) where participants commit to publishing 30 podcast episodes in 30 days. I'm going to give it a try this year... let's see how I do! More info is at http://napodpomo.org/

This morning my mind was a bit blown learning about the whole world of “chat fiction” or “chat stories” - stories told in the form of chat message exchanges. If you are not under 25, you probably don’t know about them... but they are there! In this episode I talk about chat fiction and ask a number of questions about the tools, statistics and more. I would love to hear from any listeners who have done anything with chat fiction....

It's done. It shipped. The new https://www.internetsociety.org/ website shipped! And with that, I can finally return to the writing, recording and other content creation I so love to do...

Make your web page load fast... or Facebook will lower the visibility of links to your page in the NewsFeed! On August 2nd, Facebook announced that web page load time will be a ranking factor in placement in NewsFeed. Links that load faster will show up higher in people's NewsFeeds - and links that load slowly will be lower. If you want to ensure people see your links, make your pages load fast!
