People fresh out of ERs. Tech workers with haunted eyes. Kids. Addicts. Lovers. Divorces. People on the edge. People on the brink of miracles.

People who just needed someone to ask, “Are you okay?”

I learned things in that car I never learned in school — about trauma,destiny, fear, kindness, chaos, and the quiet confessions strangers make when they think you’ll never see them again.

Some of it was dark.

Some of it was beautiful.

All of it was human.
