Steve Annear is CEO of the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson's and he is about to embark on the Kilimanjaro Challenge. He plans to climb to the summit Africa's highest peak to raise awareness and garner support for the new Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson's Wellness, which opens in Farmington Hills on October 6. 
What's even more amazing than the trek itself, is that Annear will climb the mountain on crutches. He lost his left leg at age 11 due to a blood circulation problem but his physical limitations have not stopped him from meeting and exceeding challenges.
Learn more about Steve's story and Gibson's vision for the 30,000 foot facility that will serve the Parkinson's community in southeast Michigan and beyond.
The former Tiger great was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2015 and he battles the disease day by day by remaining physically active.  The center will provide programs and services to help others afflicted with the disease to do the same. The "Son of Swami" has retired (again) after covering prep sports in Michigan for the majority of his 55 years at the Detroit Free Press. He's watched and written about the best high school athletes the state has produced and profiled the top teams. McCabe made sure to feature deserving athletes, no matter the sport. He also set the standard for coverage of girls sports, providing an equal platform within the pages of the Free Press.

Dan Kildee spent more than a decade in Congress representing Michigan districts eight and five, which included his hometown of Flint. First elected in November, 2012, Kildee, a democrat, elected not to seek an eighth term, retiring from Congress in January, 2025.
Upon leaving office, Kildee was named President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. He was also named the next Robert and Marjorie Griffin Endowed Chair in American Government at Central Michigan University, his alma mater. 
During our wide ranging conversation we discuss his career in elective politics, the workings of Congress today compared to when he was first elected, growing up in Flint and this new chapter of his life, as he continues to serve his hometown and the greater Flint area.

On his anniversary show, I had the honor of interviewing him as he looked back on the more than one-thousand episodes. Keith Gave covered the Red Wings for 15 years as beat writer for the Detroit Free Press. He was there as the team won the Stanley Cup back-to-back in 1997 and 1998. Gave is the author of four books, including the Russian Five, which tells the story of how the five Red Army Hockey Club stars wound up in Detroit and the initial role he played in the ultimate defection of Vladimir Konstantinov and Sergei Fedorov. Pat Ferschweiler, head hockey coach at Western Michigan University, is my guest on this episode of The Dave LewAllen Podcast. The Broncos earned their first-ever national title in hockey, defeating Boston University, 6-2 in the championship game of the Frozen Four in St. Louis, Missouri.
