  • 5 Reasons for Pain

    Garth Heckman

    The David Alliance

Rom. 5: 2 Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God.

3 Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.

4 And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of [c]character (approved faith and [d]tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] [e]joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.

5 Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

There is NO growth without resistance. This the first law of sowing and reaping.

There is pain in trying not to eat your seed.

There is pain planting it in the ground and feeling like you may never see it again.

There is pain in watering, weeding, fertilizing the seed.

There is pain watching the seasons not line up the way you want them to.

    There is pain in harvesting.

    There is pain building barns.

There is joy in eating the excess…

    And you start over again.

Pain is not only necessary it is vital.

While pain is often seen as negative, it can be a catalyst for growth in various aspects of life. Here are 5 reasons why pain is vital to growth:

    1. Pain signals a need for change: Whether physical or emotional, pain often indicates that something is wrong or needs to be adjusted. It can prompt us to re-evaluate our choices, habits, or perspectives, leading to positive changes.
    2. Pain fosters resilience: Overcoming painful experiences can build resilience and mental fortitude. Each challenge we face and overcome equips us with the strength and wisdom to handle future obstacles.
    3. Pain enhances empathy: Experiencing pain can deepen our understanding and compassion for others who are suffering. It allows us to connect with their struggles on a more profound level, fostering empathy and kindness.
    4. Pain clarifies priorities: Painful experiences can force us to confront our vulnerabilities and re-evaluate what truly matters to us. This clarity can help us prioritize our values, relationships, and goals, leading to a more fulfilling life.
    5. Pain fuels personal growth: Pain can be a powerful motivator for self-improvement. It can push us out of our comfort zones, encouraging us to learn, grow, and become better versions of ourselves.
    6. It's important to note that not all pain is beneficial, and chronic or excessive pain can be detrimental to well-being. However, when viewed as an opportunity for growth, pain can be a catalyst for positive change and personal development.

GEN. 2:22 Woman was MADE - built out of man… HB Bawnaw

*is your wife not what you want? Thats on you, you are to make your wife like Jesus.

And God “brought” Eve to Adam… he displayed her to Adam. And Adam said “this is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh… I shall make her my wife.

ADAM chooses Eve, he chooses to cleave to her!

*THE BIBLE SAYS A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS MOTHER AND FATHER AND CLEAVE TO HIS WIFE…

      WOMAN DON’T LEAVE THEIR FATHERS…

      THEY JUST REPLACE THEM!

The meaning of FATHER IN THE OT

      Hebrew AB

      Father - source and sustainer…

But Aramaic IT IS “AV” these together mean -

The husband is to be the source and the sustainer of his wife… and build her to be like Jesus.

LADIES YOUR first father - real father is the source and sustains me and keeps me until my next “Father” comes to fill in his place… and THAT MAN BUILDS YOU!

***Can we agree- we do not know who we really are until we get married?

Genesis 2:8 Eden… the presence of God, an open door, its not a place it is a state of being.

*man was created to be in the presence of God.

Where did Eve meet Adam? IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD.

        -  Many women meet a man who is not in the presence of God and want to marry him and make him a man who wants to be in the presence of God… NO NO NO NO - it does not work that way.

      THEN…

God gave man work before a woman…. He had a job before he got a woman. So men if you want a woman,

       - GET INTO THE PRESENCE OF GOD

        -  get a job.

           -   AND BECOME FRUITFUL…

                -    AND LEARN TO BE A PROTECTER

HE WAS TO PROTECT THE GARDEN… HIS SPACE, HIS PLACE

**All of these were active in Adams life before he was given Eve.

Woman if you are looking at a man…

DOES HE WALK IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD?

      Does he have a job?

      AND IS HE FRUITFUL…

IS HE A PROTECTOR… IS HE DANGEROUS?

IS HE LIVING THIS? Than he is man material.

Hey today I have a new promo… it is Omni fitness. Check them out at omnifitness.com

I have purchased squat racks, dumbbells, leg presses, jammer handles, squat boxes, ply’o boxes, cable systems… bars, handles, bumper plates and more… they are tough as nails, easy to deal with, all are rated for commercial use… and I have beat the living crap out of them and they still rock… and I don’t lift light boys and girls… these bars have seen over a 1000 pounds on them. So check them out at omnifitness.com and tell them Garth sent you… and I get nothing out of this, they are just good people!

Torn… I have torn my quad, my hamstring, my bicep, my infaspiratus, my supraspinatus, my medius, my labrum, my achilles tendon, my bicep tendon and a few other things… you gotta love powerlifting… but it ain’t nothing compared to what Jesus tore!

Twice in Mark’s gospel the word “torn,” with a dramatic and active sense is

used.  The first is as Jesus rises from the waters of baptism

Mark 1 9 One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. 10 As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

and the second is Mark 15:37 Then Jesus uttered another loud cry and breathed his last. 38 And the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

The first Tear presents the in-coming of the kingdom of heaven an announcing if you will that the Holy Spirit is now on Christ and ready to be used in the world in and through him. As you may know he then goes out and has a brutal 40 day fast and is tempted by satan in the desert… but overcomes it by having the Holy Spirit on him…

      and the second the

tearing away of the religious barrier between God and mankind. The veil was not to be passed unless once a year and by a priest who had to perform first a sacrifice for himself and then a sacrifice for the people. And in fact they tied a rope around his leg and he wore a bell… why? Because if the didn’t hear the bell he probably died because he went behind the veil without having performed a sacrifice for himself. And he would die immediately and they would have to pull him out by the rope tied around his feet.

But what does this really mean to us today? It means we now have access to God the father, we can talk to him we can expect to hear from him, we now have free reign or free access into his presence. If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and savior don’t waste any time… go to him the tearing has taken place, the barriers have been destroyed and you now have access to his spirit inside you and to the Father in heaven… why waste a good tear?

I think of it like this… it was torn for us to be reborn!

    10. More Power... secret power?

      The David Alliance

      Garth Heckman

Jesus shares the gospel and moves in power

The disciples in Mark 9, 10 share the gospel and move in power

In Acts they share the gospel and move in power

Power for every occasion- miracles, healing, financial, wisdom, protection, relationships…

      V. 17 Unto salvation - This word means complete deliverance from sin and death, and all the foes and dangers that beset man.

      V. 17 RIGHTEOUSNESS

Right standing before God… your body is right, your mind is right, your finances are right, your emotions/temper, bitterness, pain is nor right.

FOR THIS TO HAPPEN THEIR MUST BE POWER… AND THIS POWER COMES FROM PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL.

For in it is the righteousness of God i.e. THIS IS GODS RIGHT WAY OF LIVING.

This righteousness demands perfect submission to Gods standard… i.e. what gets into heaven?

Does sickness? Disease? Demonic activity? Want? Need? Pain? Bitterness?

      But we are ashamed…

If you had the cure to cancer but you did not share it because you were afraid of what people would think… you would be a spineless, evil selfish person… PROVE ME WRONG!

Is the Gospel not more valuable, more life changing, more eternally impacting than just a cure to cancer?

NOTHING INTIMIDATED PAUL AND HIS SPREAD OF THE GOSPEL. NOT PAIN, NOT MEN, NOT RELIGIOUS LEADERS, NOT POVERTY, NOT DEATH… BECAUSE IN ALL THESE HE EXPERIENCED THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL.

Paul is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ because it is good news.

He had been snuck over a wall in Damascus

Stoned and left for dead at Lystra

He was beaten, arrested and jailed in Philipi

He was chased out of Thessalonica

      Laughed and scorned at Athens

Nearly torn to pieces in Jerusalem

All because he preached the gospel.. .and he writes I can’t wait to come back to Rome and do it again…. WHAT?

      HE WAS NOT INTIMIDATED

      BY RELIGIOUS LEADERS

      BY MOBS

      BY ROMAN LAW

      BY DEATH THREATS

      BY PHYSICAL INJURY

      BY POVERTY OR FINANCIAL LACK

      BY CEASER

      IMPENDING EXECUTION

      HE WAS NOT ASHAMED

You get engaged to the young handsome Godly rich young man

      Your cancer free

      You win the lottery

You Father is awarded the presidential medal of Honor for bravery

        — and you don’t tell anyone?

Ridiculous… you tell everyone. ITs good news.

HOW TO OVERCOME SHAME AND INTIMIDATION

        -  1  How do you overcome shame and fear??? You simply realize where it comes from… satan!

        - 2 A simple prayer to motivate you to share the gospel: Lord restore unto me the joy of my salvation. JOY MAKES YOU BLABBER 😀

        - 3 V 17 THE POWER REVEALS WHO GOD IS THROUGH US…

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

GK - (ap-ok-al-oop’-to) To uncover, to disclose… unwrap for others to see

*Many times people are intimidated by satan, by people, by circumstances, by low self esteem… but once you begin to experience Gods power in every area of your life as you share the gospel… GAME CHANGER!

    11. GOS-Pull! 2

      Garth Heckman

      The David Alliance

The gospel is about sacrifice. It came as a sacrifice, it lived a sacrifice, it ended in a sacrifice… if we do not share the gospel in a sacrifice mindset (that it will cost us) then we will never share the gospel - we will just share salvation. i.e. I want you to know about Jesus, but only if it is comfortable for me to share it and it does not cost me anything… that is anti Gospel. - im only sharing it because its comfortable to me… its not really about the gospel- its about me… uh oh!

The highest form of selfishness is a man content to go to heaven alone! JC Ryle

      V. 16 ASHAMED

epaischunomai: To be ashamed, to feel shame

      Original Word: ἐπαισχύνομαι

      Part of Speech: Verb
      Transliteration: epaischunomai
      Pronunciation: ep-ahee-skhoo'-nom-ahee
      Phonetic Spelling: (ep-ahee-skhoo'-nom-ahee)
Definition: To be ashamed, to feel shame
Meaning: I am ashamed, am ashamed of.

Word Origin: From the preposition ἐπί (epi, meaning "upon" or "on") and the verb αἰσχύνω (aischynō, meaning "to be ashamed”).

In sum, 1870/epaisxynomai ("dishonor") refers to being disgraced, bringing on "fitting" shame that matches the error of wrongly identifying (aligning) with something.

I.e. I will not be the one who identifies with someone who is afraid or ashamed to share the gospel.

BUT - epaisxýnomai (from epi, "on, fitting" intensifying 153/aisxynō, "disgrace") – properly, I will not be like someone "singled out" because they misplaced their confidence or support.

Dumb it down for me: Paul is saying I will not be the one who stands before God and is the one who was afraid or ashamed of sharing the gospel.

      V. 16 POWER

Meaning: (a) physical power, force, might, ability, efficacy, energy, meaning (b) plur: powerful deeds, deeds showing (physical) power, marvelous works.

Word Origin: Derived from the Greek verb δύναμαι (dunamai), meaning "to be able" or "to have power."

Corresponding Greek / Hebrew Entries: - H3581 (koach): Often translated as strength or power, used to describe God's creative and sustaining power.

      - H1369 (geburah): Refers to might or strength, often in the context of God's mighty acts.

Usage: Dunamis primarily denotes power, strength, or ability. It is often used in the New The early Christians understood dunamis as the transformative power of God at work in believers, enabling them to live out their faith and witness to the world.

      HELPS Word-studies

1411 dýnamis (from 1410 /dýnamai, "able, having ability") – properly, "ability to perform" (L-N); for the believer, power to achieve by applying the Lord's inherent abilities.

(1411 /dýnamis) is needed in every scene of life to really grow in sanctification and prepare for heaven (glorification). 1411 (dýnamis) is a very important term, used 120 times in the NT.

      1. universally, "inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth”
      2.

The power of God - This expression means that it is the way in which God exerts his power in the salvation of people. It is the efficacious or mighty plan, by which power goes forth to save, and by which all the obstacles of man’s redemption are taken away. This expression implies,

        (1) That it is God’s plan, or his appointment. It is not the device of man.

        (2) It is adapted to the end. It is suited to overcome the obstacles in the way. It is not merely the instrument by which God exerts his power, but it has an inherent adaptedness to the end, it is suited to accomplish salvation to man so that it may be denominated power.

        (3) It is mighty, hence, it is called power, and the power of God. If is not a feeble and ineffectual instrumentality, but it is “mighty to the pulling down of strongholds,” 2Co 10:4-5. It has shown its power as applicable to every degree of sin, to every combination of wickedness. It has gone against the sins of the world, and evinced its power to save sinners of all grades, and to overcome and subdue every mighty form of iniquity,

The reason I offend you is because my whole-hearted belief in God and my actions, that are in line with his word, call out your watered-down, self-induced reasoning of why you DON’T follow his word… It is also why you don’t get the results, the joy, the power and the fulfillment that I experience daily. So keep making your excuses, keep watering down his word with popular opinion and keep your lukewarm lifestyle — and stay out of my way. I’m trying to reach the world for Jesus.

Does my arrogance offend you? That’s because what you see as arrogance is faith that moves mountains… but I get it, it’s easier for you to call me out than for you to live it out!

        Obedience

You better obey me, young lady or you will get eaten by alligators! That would seem ridiculous unless you know the future. The girls did not listen. They did not obey and they did get eaten by alligators.

Believing without obedience is the ultimate idolatry. We are saying without a doubt I am God I know best I will obey only me.

Garth, here is some encouragement in the Lord today. In Genesis 19, Lot is told by the Angels to flee to the Mountains and Lot pleads to be allowed to run to “this little city” called Zoar (19:18-21). Lot argued that he would be overtaken by the disaster and would not make it. He chose the path to Zoar because it was easier, rather than choosing the mountain, which seems logical.

In Hebrew Zoar means “insignificant”. If we step back and read this passage with that in mind, we see that Lot chose the easy path to insignificance rather than choosing the harder path that God had laid out for him. We will never know how his destiny and those of his wife and daughters would have been different had he chosen the harder path. Maybe his wife would have focused on the urgency to get up the mountain rather than looking back on a path with sure footing. Again we will never know.

Today, I pray that we follow and learn obedience in the path the Lord has set before us even if it is harder. I pray that this brings Him glory and that in the long term our families are blessed by these decisions… if not we might actually be choosing insignificance and like Lot… never be heard of again just like his story in the Bible.

        The David Alliance

        WHY DOES sATAN HATE OBEDIENCE?

Obedience Brings Power, favor, increased authority - “the move of God”

        Phil. 2:5

5 Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. 6Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. 7He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. 8. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

2 Cor. 10:5We tear down arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, as soon as your obedience is complete.

        Punish GK ek-dee-kay-oh

        Exact punishment to vindicate

Disobedience GK  para-ko-ay  choosing to disregard what you know/hear

Obedience GK - to hear and obey

        Complete GK  Play-ro-O

The verb "pléroó" primarily conveys the idea of filling something to its full capacity or bringing something to completion.

In the military who moves up in power?  The obedient or the disobedient?  Those who follow orders move up the ranks faster then those who don’t.  AND WHEN YOU MOVE UP YOU MOVE IN POWER!

If you have heard me preach for very long you have heard me say this …

Rebellion is a false sense of Power.   We live in a time where we reward disobedience, we publicize it and promote it in the media… it can slowly creep into our spiritual walk if we are not careful!

When we don’t obey God we feel powerless, so we disobey to feel a sense of power, but it is false, it is deadly.  It is destructive.

However the more we obey God the more we sense his spirit and the more power we truly have.

          • Increased Stress: The body perceives fasting as a stressor, which can exacerbate existing anxiety or stress.
          • If you long for a deeper relationship with God or if you face a crisis or situation of special need, adding fasting to your prayer is a way God has given us to seek Him more earnestly. If you make fasting

a regular part of relationship with God, you will never regret it. For He has said, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13)
