1 Cor. 3:10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

The frames of ordinary houses back in Christ day were made out of wood, hay and clay… all combined to create a house. If there was a fire, the wood, hay and stubble/clay wold burn up and also turn to dust and powder. But the temple was built out of cut stones and adorned with jewels and fine stones… in a fire these would all last.

We know scripture says people perish without a vision… so what does a vision entail for those of us who know we will be facing a fire… here is a simple plan I employ from a man of God perspective.

    5 things:

1- Your mind… ie. A vision of who you want to be in your body, soul, spirit as a follower of Christ. How does this live out in your family, your business your Xn walk.

      - 2 A daily list of what you will do in order to walk in that vision

      - 3 Monthly to do list… these are more of your goals… your to do for your Ta Da!

      - 4 Yearly you check your habits or as I like to think of… your systems.

      - 5 Life… take time to compare your past life 1 year, 2 year, 5 year, 10, 15 20 years and ask yourself if you are leaving a legacy.

Now ask yourself this question… at this point right now, if you face a fire… you die, what will last, what will be eternal? Only those that you led to Christ through living out your vision.

August Friday and Saturday 16th 17th End times conference at HillSpring Church sponsored by The David Alliance,

1 Cor. 11:1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

We talked about the apostle Paul… horrendous life of torture, unfair evil against him… and suffering… yet he said Imitate me… be like me… he never blamed God and always shared Christ as his main purpose in life.

    Who is a man… a man’s man?

Now I know all but one of the disciples were martyred and they are men of men… but what I mean is those men who had to deal and are dealing continually with seemingly overwhelming life circumstances… but still push forward and hold no ill will. They did not let their plight- no matter how hard or unfair it was stop them from fulfilling their purpose.

Nick voicheck… What were the thoughts he had growing up… never married, no kids, no job… Now speaks to millions, beautiful wife and kids. Extremely financially set for life… impacting kids and audiences around the world.

    Be like Nick… he’s a man.

Nelson Mandela - falsely accused, life sentence for standing up against apartheid- 27 years in prison… and never an ill word towards those who did that to him. And then he still went after life with ambition to change the world. Democratically Elected as the first black president…

He is someone you should be like.

A man in Turkey was imprisoned and told to deny Christ… he would not, they torutured him continually, he would not do anything other than tell his captors how much Jesus Loved them. They brought in his wife and raped her repeatedly and he would not deny Christ… he instead preached Gods love to her while the guards continuously used her… they finally killed her. He would not deny Jesus. They brought in his young son… who was confused. They tried to convince his son that his father did not love him… they tortured his son… the man would still not deny Christ. They killed his son… and the man wept for the guards to come to Christ… Thats a man - be like him

I broke my neck in 3 places, I have had 4 tumors… still 2 are in my head - one in my brain. My arms have gone paralyzed and my stomach has had over 20 hernias, I have had 3 cancers, 20 surgeries, 16 months of chemo, I have gone bankrupt once, I have had friends and family turn on me. My marriage at one point almost ended. My youngest son ran from God and lived an extremely sinful life. I have been fired from a church after lies were told. I was forced to leave another church due to untrue allegations about me hitting on a women sexually. I have an enlarged heart that causes a few problems… and the list could go on and on. I know of others that are still far and above me in the “life is unfair” category…  I say this humbly… I don’t care about any of this- or what has happened to me. I simply want to reach people for Jesus and I hold no ill will towards Christ… we live in a sinful world… satan knows I am all in for Jesus… so I get it… Im a target.

I hope you can say what I am about to say… Be like me! Be like Jesus.

  • Self... Serve?

INTRO: Giving it all to Jesus rolls off the tongue so easily… Im going to give Jesus my all… but when we realize what that really means… well its a lot harder… what does serving Jesus really mean? Loving others… and yet still we find it hard to understand that fully… and thats where we are going today.

Hans Seleai Doctor Scientist endocrinologist and author… the leading expert of the study of stress and its affect on the body… said his life goal was to earn his neighbors love…

He understood that one of the leading ways to clear stress out of ones life is to serve and love others… and part of that was to raise people up.

He uses the example of self esteem is wanting to give yourself away. Like a farmer who only has so many seeds, if he hordes them they will rot and he cannot possibly tap the potential of all those seeds. But if he gives them away to others who can also plant them, he has now multiplied himself and his gifts and talents. These people will add nuances, ideas, fertilizer, different climates… all leading to greater and greater and more thriving gifts and talents out there. And guess what… you will not only enjoy portions of their harvest, but you will enjoy simply watching others grow seeds you passed along to them. You will get so much more in return than just other seeds and goods, you will see a legacy grow and truly feel and understand your value as a creation of Christ.

    Philippians 2:6–7

6 pwho, though he was in qthe form of God, did not count equality with God ra thing to be grasped,17 but semptied himself, by taking the form of a tservant,2ubeing born in the likeness of men.

That language is so important. Paul defined the kenosis, or self-emptying, by using the word “slave.” All the way down, Jesus was the One who was face-to-face with God, pros ton theon, as it says in the gospel of John. Then, He prayed in John 17 to be restored to that pros ton theon, face-to-face with God, because He had made a slave of Himself, voluntarily submitting to the will of the Father and the power of the Holy Spirit.

One of our fundamental flaws as humans especially if we call ourselves Christians… is that of not wanting to serve or slave for Jesus but just the opposite and wanting to be served by everyone INCLUDING JESUS. But if you don’t give yourself away in service to others for God, by God and in Gods love YOU WILL NEVER FIND YOURSELF. YOU WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER KNOW HOW VALUABLE YOU ARE - you will never feel it down in your soul, your bones…

You might think I am arrogant and egotistical… I can be… but most of the time you are simply picking up on me in the cradle of Gods value and love… that I have learned by serving others. Whats the secret to an unshakeable self love and self esteem? The secret is serving others.

  • Would Jesus pull the Trigger?

    Garth Heckman

    The David Alliance

BAM - watch them every Tuesday night on our Facebook page.

August Friday and Saturday 16th 17th End times conference at HillSpring Church sponsored by The David Alliance,

    INTRO:

If someone asked you a simple question… would Jesus drop a bomb on a city? OR would Jesus pull the trigger on someone breaking into their house… how would you respond?

YESTERDAY… at a coffee shop. Olga from Bulgaria…

    Is he in the bathroom…

We can’t ask would Jesus pull the trigger… it would make no more sense than asking would Jesus take medicine.

Jesus does condone violence as seen in Matthew 18:6 and in the end times he uses violence for his purpose.

He gave us life which is the greatest gift next to his son we could receive. He asks us to protect life, in the womb, out of the womb to the tomb.

If I was to quantify wether or not I want to take someones life I would say 99.9% of me does not want to take a life. But within the same scale 100% of me wants to stay alive and protect my family. So by a mere .01% I will choose to defend myself.

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Amplified: Blessed (enjoying enviable happiness, spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they shall be called the sons of God! (Amplified Bible - Lockman)

    1. To preserve peace where it is—...

    2. To restore it where it is not—…

Jesus brought the ability to have peace between Man and God through a violent death…

This would be a terrible picture of what peace was if you actually thought it meant pacifism.

Christ through the end times allows, and calls upon and even dictates to his angels to act out violence on the earth… why? To bring about repentance and peace to the world.

Study to show thyself approved unto God workman that needeth not be ashamed… there are in fact over a 100 verses on continued learning. It never stops. And in fact when we learn hard things it helps our brain grow new tissue and regenerate and keeps us younger.

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Imo. 15:4

Commitment - set goals and structure their future and stick to it.

We as men are set up by God to

    share Christ,

    protect our families,

    serve the church.

We do it best when we have trained ourselves in each of these.

This is the extent of your personal focus and reliability. To be high on the Commitment scale is to be able to effectively set goals and consistently achieve them, without getting distracted. A high Commitment level indicates that you’re good at establishing routines and habits that cultivate success.

To be low on the Commitment scale indicates that you may find it difficult to set and prioritize goals, or adapt routines or habits indicative of success. You might also be easily distracted by other people or competing priorities.

But wait theres more… we talk a lot about what to do and how to do… and even the why…

But what most of us need is a Motivation to do it.

What are your motivations in life? If you tell me your motivations I can tell you just how successful or unsuccessful you will be.  Look I can’t tell you what your motivations should be… its a little different for each one of us… but we can agree that we all know that we will stand before God one day and give an account of our life… thats a pretty good motivator … but what else. Well let me share with you a few of my own personal motivations and maybe it will resonate with you or help you come up with your own.

My main motivation after pleasing God is leaving a legacy for my family. How will my wife, my boys and my grandkids see my life?

Another motivation is how do my parents see my life- they are still alive… what they think matters to me.

Third motivation is understanding that I as a human being have the potential to be great, do great things and live a great life… we all do- but am I doing it. And finally here is the one that hits the jugular…

If I were to die today would my wife remarry someone just like me? i.e. would she marry someone who has my big gut, my flabby face, who dresses sloppy like me, would she marry another man who does so poorly with finances and has no real retirement plan, would she marry a man who treats her the way I treat her…. Basically have you set the bar high so that she will have a hard time finding someone who can fill your shoes?

I honestly would say that most women over 40 would not choose a man who has the same body there current husband has. Does your wife want a fat husband? A poor husband? A loveless husband? NO - so make that your motivation.

Together, the Control and Commitment scales represent the Resilience part of the Mental Toughness definition. This makes sense because the ability to bounce back from setbacks requires a sense of knowing that you serve a God who is in control of your life and can make a change - and has given you control thru prayer and spiritual battles. It also requires focus and the ability to establish habits and targets that will get you back on track to your chosen path.

This combined with the right motives makes you unstoppable.

Loss of control by Van Halen… it says loss control about 50 times in the song. Its a good reminder of how to be a Bad Ass man of Faith. Not so much about a loss of control and not so much about taking control… but more about paying attention to control.

    1. 1.Attentional Control

Luke 4 Jesus walks through the crowd that wanted to throw him off the cliff.

Focus on what is Gods calling and let the rest fall to the wayside.

    Take every thought captive.

Mental toughness begins when you choose to take notice of what’s passing through your mind, without identifying personally with those thoughts or feelings. Then, finding the determination to evoke optimistic thoughts about the situation at hand.

According to Strycharczyk and Clough (n.d.), techniques for developing mental toughness revolve around five themes:

*right this second do you know how to get to the hospital? Ever been in a city or location where you don’t know where the hospital is and you are in desperate need of one? What if you chose not to go to the hospital and you are in desperate need…guess what… you are in desperate need.

    • A BAMF HAS connections that are crucial for healing. Having supportive family, friends, or mens groups, bible studies, marriage groups, groups of married friends…  provides a safe space to share experiences, feel validated, and receive encouragement. These are your hospitals, your spiritual fitness centers, your nutrition centers for your psyche.

We all know the scripture Prov. 27:17 as iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another…

That sounds great much like eat healthy and exercise and you will look and feel better… but do you actually do it? As a man do you: a. Have friends who are able to sharpen you…  Look a lot of time our friends are not iron but rather clay, hard of soft. A BAMF has iron around him   b. Do you allow yourself to be sharpened… are you vulnerable?  A couple nights ago I want through another personal deliverance session as a tune up… people are praying for you and calling things out on you and your want to defend, you want to give excuses.. but in the end I have to fight it because I want to be sharpened.  BAMF’s embrace sharpening.

    C. Are they Spiritually inclined enough to sharpen your spiritual senses as well as your mental emotional. And finally do they have the guts to do this with you? Maybe you have to give them permission,

If one of the biggest issues for men is loneliness than we might imagine that you ain’t getting sharpened much if at all. So find yourself a mens group, a mens bible study, a mens 12 step group, a mens Sunday school class… something where you can connect with other Godly men.

*if you aint sharp you dull!

2 Cor. 11: 22-30 Paul ends up bragging about his humiliations and says he is like Jesus.

2 Cor. 12: 7-10 Paul asked God to remove his thorn 3 times and he did not… but Paul reframed the experience to point out Gods strength.

Paul was stoned, whipped, shipwrecked, imprisoned, robbed, killed… yeah killed, probably 3 times…

Paul was in ministry for 30 years

You read this above list and Paul on average had a major catastrophe every year.

Let me say this up front and I will keep saying it… a real man continually tests himself, his beliefs and his actions to see if he really is a real man…We say we are Xn’s but do our actions line up with scripture… look if you really want to love yourself examine yourself truthfully according the full the full context of scripture and adjust, change - call yourself out… if you want others to love you, then examine yourself according to your justifications.  we must all practice this weekly if not daily.

**So What is the psychology behind the mindset of someone who can go through a life of trauma, problems, relationship turmoil, betrayal, death and still overcome? What made Paul Paul? What Godly characteristics do we see in Paul that made him a BAMF… a bad as man of faith.

Men who are overcomer’s show incredible resilience in the face of adversity. There isn't a single mindset, but most likely a combination of factors that contribute to Pauls strength and manliness:

    • Challenge to Core Beliefs: Life has a way that can shatter a person's sense of safety and trust in the world. (PTSD is a real thing people) Overcoming this requires building, rebuilding and letting God govern those beliefs. Real Men may develop a stronger sense of self understanding in their faith in God, and a newfound appreciation for His safety and security as they go through each challenge.

What do I mean… I mean their core beliefs don’t keep them from pain or harm, but rather keep them going in the time of pain and harm. YOU SAY “GARTH WHATS THE POINT?” They expect this. They expect challenges… If you have a core belief.. say You believe in gravity… it will be tested! A man of God - a BAMF not only knows it, but will expect it… why well thats point #2
