If we're going to minister like Jesus ministered, we need to prepare like He prepared. Jesus often spent entire nights in prayer to the Father before a day's work of ministry. He was not recharging, but simply remaining in the Father...staying connected to the source of His power. Without prayer, busyness causes us to get independent and self-sustaining, which will only lead to burn-out. And in prayer, we will learn to love people. Faith is activated by love, so without love, we cannot truly exercise any powerful faith. To believe is to endure, and only love can endure all things. So, we need to love in order to have faith for miracles. This means that we need to develop a relentless love for people, in private first, in order to grow in a powerful faith that will see the hurting healed.

If discipleship, to us, means only producing people who believe the fact of Jesus' Lordship, but do not truly follow Him, we are failing. Discipleship means producing disciples -- people who, themselves, walk like Christ and make disciples. If we think we succeed by making believers, we are deceived. We're only producing people with a false hope, bringing no fruit to maturity, and destined to fall away when tribulation comes. A religious belief cannot save, but only a conviction and full surrender to the obedience of the gospel. To make disciples, we are instructed to spend enough time with people that they witness the fullness of a relationship with Christ before being presented with the final choice to receive or reject Him. If we are not walking like Christ, then when we are rejected, Christ is not being rejected, but rather, our false representation of Him.
