With so many “professional” opinions out there, concerning finance, sometimes it’s hard to differentiate between valuable information and propaganda.
And before HUGE decisions are made there are many important factors to consider—whether you’re planning on taking a lump sum payout, a monthly income, or a roll-over in relation to your pension. This week, on the DL Show, our host David explains what future retirees need to know about their pensions, if they have one, before retiring. Topics discussed in today’s show:
Defined Benefit Plan. This plan,otherwise known as the pension, is guaranteed by the employer for the policyholder to receive a definite amount of money at retirement. Guaranteed.
Defined Contribution Plan. This plan, otherwise known as the 401k, is a money match or percentage contribution to a profit sharing pool where you, the employee, takes all the risk. The final amount of money received depends on how the investment performs in the stock market. Unguaranteed.
The Tax Tumor. The tax tumor is what’s owed in the future when cashing in on your 401k. (Insider info: nobody knows what the tax percentage will be in the future. But one thing’s for sure. It will be higher.)
David also addresses a listener's question:
I put 10% into my 401k plan. The company matches 6% and I was wondering...Is it advisable to keep putting that much in my 401k plan or should I think about something else with my money?

When it comes to basic retirement planning, most of America’s been drinking the Koolaid. And for years, or for some, entire career spans, millions have been contributing, monthly, to one of the largest government tax-postponement plans in existence—the tax deferment plan otherwise known as the 401k.
On this episode of the DL Show, David talks about what’s waiting for you when you’re ready or need to collect on your 401k. There are lots of mixed signals out there, in the financial world. And the new trend is for Financial Advisors and the media to fear monger about everything financial.
Of course it is human to fear and worry about what we don’t understand. Lucky are the listeners of the David Lukas Show, in that he works hard to educate and help Savers Worry Less About Money®.
This week, on the DL Show, David talks about how Wall Street banks on the heavy dose of fear fed to Savers. Promoting the ear of being taken advantage of and fear of the unknown is how Wall Street has duped Savers into thinking that moving their fee-laden mutual funds—the funds that they, the Financial Advisors, are making a pretty penny on—into annuities is a bad move because of SURRENDER CHARGES!

Hey David. I have some concerns because I’ve had some health issues in the past. I didn’t work for about 4 years and because I was a single mom for eight years and couldn’t put any money away in my 401k. Now, I feel like I’m behind in where I should be and I’m concerned about when I can retire. How do I get to the point where I can retire comfortably? We would like to take the money that we do have and grow it as much as possible without taking too much risk.

Have you ever Googled the word annuity? If you haven’t, maybe you should. Much to the financial industry’s dismay, annuities have become popular products that help Savers use, enjoy and protect their hard earned money.
This week, on the David Lukas Show, David focuses on annuities and why/how they have recently become the sweethearts of the insurance business.
David first chats about something that happened back in 2014—an estimated 50 billion dollars moved from managed accounts into products called hybrid annuities (fixed indexed annuities). Yes folks. That’s 50. Billion. Dollars.
So why did all that money move from Wall Street to insured contractual agreements? Security. That’s when many “investors” finally realized that they were actually Savers more interested in the return of their money other than the rate of return on their money.

The first week of 2016 was the worst five days in recorded history, for the US stock market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed out… low—finishing the worst opening week ever seen for the world’s largest economy.
