They finally made it! The original episode 20 was a recording nightmare and instead of Ed throwing his laptop out the window, our resident nerds re-recorded a new one. This time the right boxes were checked so it actually recorded. 
 
But yes! Episode 20 in all its glory is out in the wild. In this episode, Kara and Ed break down the famous Salem Witch Trials of 1692. While the rest of the world was winding down from all their witch hunt chicanery, the American colonies were just getting warmed up. However, America being America took their own spin on things and our hosts look at everything from the belief structures of the Puritans, how women and children were valued in Puritanical society as well as politics, and land grabbing and legalized incestuous robbery. There is a lot of stuff that went on behind the scenes beyond a handful of girls claimed they saw and experienced. 
 
After 19 women and men were innocently executed for bogus reasons, it's safe to say that NOTHING like this witch hunt could ever happen again. America always learns its lessons and thankfully crazy witch hunts have never happened again... [insert eye roll emoji here]

Hey Everyone!
 
Kara and Ed are back behind the microphones (albeit Ed's pop filter technique still isn't working... you'll hear it when you hear it; meanwhile Kara's $30 budget special is going strong... ) with a new episode revolving around Henry VIII and his puss filled leaky thigh. Kara dives into why being married to Henry VIII is a really bad idea. In fact, Kara brings up just how dangerous it can be to know the wives of Henry VIII. 
 
To be in Henry's circle, you have to to sign a waiver that states that you're quite content with the notion that your head and your body are ok being in two different locations in London at the same time. And this is all due to the King's whim. 
 
What could possibly go wrong?
 
Furthermore, what happens when you fixate on controlling biology to the point where if you have a daughter, then heads must roll. And yet if you have a boy, he's too sickly to rule...
 
It seems like to be the kind of king Henry VIII was, you need to live forever and be in control of thousands of cloning vats. May god have mercy on your soul if you defy the necessity of chromosomal destiny and you wind up with any gender!

Fat Batman and Asthmatic Robin are out of a life inducing exile after a long bout of Murphy's Law saying, "Hold my beer, and watch this!" Being an adult is hard and "adulting" takes up a lot of time. Now our intrepid hosts are back and Ed is once again nerding out on sciencey things. All the while Kara sits patiently while Ed tries and fails to bring out his inner Neil deGrasse Tyson. 
 
In this episode, the famous Hubble Space Telescope's origin story is under the magnifying lens so to speak. We all love the pictures this instrument has been pumping out for decades, but few remember or know that the process to get this thing built took decades and was fraught with one trashcan fire after another. Everything from funding issues, to mirror grinding issues, to even exploding space shuttles. The fact that it is doing so well now is a testament to humanity's inability to control Murphy's Law... but it's cute when it does try.

In what was supposed to be a bonus episode for the hit release of Christopher Nolan's movie, Oppenheimer, Ed and Kara took a deep dive into J. Robert Oppenheimer's life and the various events that brought him up to the infamous Manhattan Project. In this episode, everyone gets to look into what made Oppenheimer such a genius as well as a good leader, but more importantly, we get to learn how to make a seemingly innocuous research paper entitled in such a way that it seems absolutely fascinating. 
 
Ultimately, you will get some visibility into how the atomic bomb worked; why there was so much desire to unlock the power of the atom; and why it's a bad idea to have a brother, sister in law, a girlfriend, and a land lady all be card carrying communists at the same time...
 
Join our intrepid nerds in what they had originally intended to be a bonus episode to be be released on the same day as the movie as they fail to even get that part right. What was intended to be a bonus episode in between normal bi-weekly episodes, has turned out to be just a normal episode.

Kara and Ed are back and they are trying a slightly different format... they both will have a segment instead of one person hogging the entire episode. In this episode Kara dives into the craziness of the expedition to find King Tutt's tomb in the 1920s and 1930. The moral of the story: DON'T SHAVE YOUR FACE AFTER IT HAS BEEN BITTEN BY A MOSQUITO! Meanwhile Ed will look at a city whose sole purpose was to protect the Valley of the Kings from tomb robbers and house craftsmen to construct tombs for future pharaohs. However, five minutes after the city got to work, the people protecting and and constructing these elaborate tombs started to rob the crap out of them. 
 
Lastly you'll get a glimpse at Kara and Ed's elaborate topic choosing protocols that they use to figure out what episode you're going to hear next.

Hey Everyone!
 
In today's episode Kara is going to paint a picture of King Tutankhamen. This guy was named Pharaoh when he was only 12 years old and was immediately charged with the responsibility of fixing his entire country's religious SNAFU's left over from his dad. He also had to rebuild economies, temples, boats, and the military... A pretty tall order to ask any pre-teen. 
 
What's worse, he had to do all of that while his inbred genetic make up made him susceptible to every kind of malady, syndrome, and dysfunction known to man. Literally his family tree looked like the Olympic five hoop logo... 
 
So join Kara and Ed as they dive into the kiddy pool sized genetic wreck that was King Tutankhamen and see just why this guy is so famous.

Happy Fathers' Day everyone! 
 
In this special episode of The Day's Dumpster Fire, Ed and Kara don't mention a single thing about Fathers' Day and instead dive right into the absolutely insane incident known at at the 1919 Boston Molasses Flood. 
 
Ever heard of the the phrase, "Slower than molasses on a January morning" or something of the sort? Well.... it just so happened that 21 Bostonians were killed and another 150 people injured as well as a horse got smothered in a 2.3 million gallon sticky tsunami of molasses in just a few seconds. 
 
This topic, just like so many other topics, starts off with an assumption that the events that took place are comical and "sooooo 1919's" but when Ed and Kara dive in to the sweet, sweet, details; things are not as easily understood. This dumpster fire literally embraces the adage that to "assume" makes and "ass out of you and molasses."

Have you ever seen that famous black and white film footage of that giant hydrogen-filled blimp on fire with the guy in the back ground screaming, "Oh the humanity!" and thought to yourself, how did this happen to the famous Hindenburg blimp?
 
Well today's episode won't even come close to answering any of that... That will be another episode so don't worry.  In this episode Kara dives into one of the most seminal figures in German history: 
 
Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg (thank you Wikipedia). 
 

If you want the easier way to pronounce his name try this: 
 
paʊl ˈluːtvɪç hans ˈantoːn fɔn ˈbɛnəkn̩dɔʁf ʔʊnt fɔn ˈhɪndn̩bʊʁk (I hate you Wikipedia).
 

Either way, this guy was a decorated war hero and shared a lot of similarities with George Washington. They both wanted to retire and yet they kept getting called back time and time again to serve their nations. The major difference is that where Washington succeeded, Hindenburg accidentally laid the foundation for Adolf Hitler's psychotic machinations. 
 
So join Kara and Ed in the exploration into the world of German political intrigue and old men with epic mustaches as they butcher their way through one German name after another and construct the dumpster that will eventually be lit known as the Third Reich.

Hey there! Have you ever wondered what the meaning of life is? Why ducks float and yet small rocks don't, and other mysteries??? Well, neither did your hosts.

In Part 1 of Custer's Last Stand, Ed and Kara looked at who George Armstrong Custer was and how he rose through the ranks to ultimately get absolutely wrecked on the plains of Southern Montana.

In this finale, the time has finally come! Much like the famous sinking of the Titanic, we get to find out the fate of Custer's battalion in the grassy fields of Montana in 1876. Spoiler alert... much like the Titanic, the boat sinks, and in the case of Custer's men, they all die too.

Join Ed and Kara as they dive into the nitty-gritty details of this epic battle in the Plains Wars that culminated in what would later be known as Custer's Last Stand.

Note: It is highly recommended that you listen to parts 1 and 2 prior to listening to this final episode. There was so much that happened prior to this conflict in 1876 that it's important to look at the brief biographies of Custer and Sitting Bull and how their life choices brought them to the Greasy Grass.

By the end of this episode, you'll walk away with a sudden contentment about your life. Things might seem pretty dire right now, but at least you're not surrounded, cut off, outnumbered, malnourished, and under-led by a bunch of generals and colonels who literally had no idea what, when, and where to attack—let alone knowledge of their own positions and their fellow units.
