In this episode, Matt speaks with Melinda Jean Stafford, Campus Programs Coordinator and Bee Team Advisor at Boise State University, about harvesting honey.
Melinda describes how a warm fall, a hard winter, and continued problems with varroa mites may have impacted honey production in Oregon and Idaho. She also reminds beekeepers that hives in our area will need 60-to-80 pounds of honey to get through the coming winter, so you will want to decide how much honey your bees have available before you start harvesting.
If you are ready to harvest your honey, Melinda explains what you need to do and when you need to do it.
