Melinda describes how a warm fall, a hard winter, and continued problems with varroa mites may have impacted honey production in Oregon and Idaho. She also reminds beekeepers that hives in our area will need 60-to-80 pounds of honey to get through the coming winter, so you will want to decide how much honey your bees have available before you start harvesting.
