One of the great brands that D&B sells is Carhartt. This week's profile podcast will discuss and learn more about the formation and the story of the brand that started in 1889.

Dave Moore, the Brand Archivist, and Historian for Carhartt, who takes care of all the historical artifacts speaks with Matt about the history of Hamilton Carhartt and how the lifestyle and trust he built his brand around in 1889 still holds true today.

Deb Ferraro, VP of Product Development talks about new product and how it lives up to the DNA that is Carhartt. Hamilton Carhartt's practices are still in place, for instance how everything they do is centered around the end user.

Hailey Harting, who works as a volunteer firefighter in Huntington, Oregon, shares her story about how she got into volunteer firefighting, how she balances her day job as a deputy sheriff with volunteering, and why she loves giving back to her community. She will also divulge come challenges she faces every day. Matt will then chat with Steve Hersh, the first vice chair of the national volunteer fire committee, about the statistics of volunteer firefighters and the great need for more volunteers. You will also learn how to become a volunteer firefighter in your town, or how you can give back to your community by supporting your local volunteer firefighters.

Collett DePhelps, an area educator in food systems and small farms, and Cinda Williams, who is recently retired but still volunteers at farm and ranch conferences, come from the University of Idaho to talk to Matt. They will teach you how to enter into the small farming and ranching industry, and then how to sustain your operation. They will also discuss the Cultivating Success Idaho Webinar about small farming, and the Cultivating the Harvest 2019 conference. Their discussion will give you tips on how to live and thrive off of the farm and ranch lifestyle you desire.

Matt chats with Kim and Kathy Vader, owners of Idaho Sheep Camp Inc., to explore how sheep wagons affected our ancestor's lives and how they improved life on the ranch. They take a deep dive into the history of sheep wagons and how they have created a modern business out of an old piece of technology. The Vader's give some great advice on how sheep wagons can be used in the modern age to make work on the farm more efficient.

Gene Klaft, Territory Manager with Merck Animal Health, joins Matt to talk about the calving and branding season. Many challenges like weather, vaccinations, shelter, and being ready for the unknown face ranchers every season but thanks to reserach and many years of experience, Gene gives some great advice, even for the seasoned rancher.

John Schultz, a ten-time winner of the McCall Winter Carnival ice sculpting competition, talks about his love of sculpting, his town of McCall, and his new profession as a small acre farmer.

Join Corey Mosby, Fur Bearer Biologist and Greg Wooten, Chief of Enforcement, both with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and learn a detailed step by step process on what to do if your dog is caught in a trap. They also discuss why people and the state trap and talk about the mandatory trapper education class offered by Idaho Fish and Game.

Sam Wolkenhauer, the Regional Economist for the Idaho Department of Labor, talks with Matt about the enormous growth that Idaho is having and will continue to have. He also asks the questions like how fast are we really growing? Where is the growth happening? How is that impacting jobs? How does the influx of large employers impact wages? Are wages going up?

Leo Hennessy, the recently retired, non-motorized trails coordinator for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (who has has been involved with Idaho yurts for about 20 years) chats with Matt about this unique experience that is the perfect solution to cabin fever.

Traditions are what you make of them. Some feast on meals, others camp in a trailer for three months selling Christmas trees to the community of Twin Falls, Idaho, for the past 65 years.
