Cal and Liam continue their month celebrating Green Lantern with Justice League‘s second season episode titled “Hearts and Minds” which reveals more about the DCAU’s GL Corps and about John Stewart’s past. As announced on last week’s episode, the Good Brothers are mixing things up for the month of September, reviewing a month of Green Lantern episodes featured all across DC animation in honor of the Green Lantern’s 80th anniversary. Kicking off the month, the hosts are covering the first appearance of the Green Lantern in the DCAU with Superman: The Animated Series episode “In Brightest Day…” which features fan-favorite Kyle Rayner. Cal and Liam discuss the episode in detail, including how it feels like a backdoor pilot for an unfulfilled Green Lantern animated spin-off, the soaring and memorable GL theme used throughout, whether or not this would’ve been better served in two parts and their thoughts on the DCAU GL uniforms. The fifth Saturday of August 2020 gives the Good Brothers a chance at reviewing an Elseworlds tale from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. This week’s episode titled “Night of The Batmen!” reveals what would happen if Batmen was put on the injured list for a time and a few other heroes had to cover for him. Cal & Liam briefly recap the origins of this lighter take on Batman and then talk about the incredibly earworm-y opening musical number, the various homages to different Batman designs, Aquaman’s buffoonish characterization, anfuncovering some of the legendary voice-actors portraying some of the heroes. They also talk about a character featured who just so happened to this week make his triumphant return to comics in Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok’s “Three Jokers” miniseries, which voice actor should always be cast as one particular character and a sneak peek at what’s coming up on the schedule for the exciting month of September! The Good Brothers take a break from all of the sci-fi man-beasts for a good old-fashioned revenge tale. The culmination to the Batman/Ninja plot comes to an end as the hosts cover “Day of the Samurai”, the follow up to the Kyodai Ken saga that started in “Night of the Ninja.” The hosts discuss a variety including the sepia-toned bookends of the Wayne/Ken story, inconsistent animation that leads to some high highs and low lows. The hosts also discuss the cultural sensitivity for the Japanese culture being refreshing, the fantastic music and where this episode improved over the previous Ninja episode. Plus, the thread throughout that they believe could’ve been expounded on, an appreciation of Eric Rodomski’s background images, why this Batman feels truer to the character than some recent live-action portrayals, practicing the “fatal touch” as kids, and a discussion on the latest unfortunate news out of DC Comics. The unofficial Creature Feature month continues on the DCAU Review as the Good Brothers continue their month of Batman: The Animated Series coverage. This week our hosts review “Moon of the Wolf” which is based on a 1970s Neal Adams era Batman comic of the same title. Unfortunately for the hosts the comic seems to have been a bit more interesting as they quickly learn, due partly in fact to the return of Akom Production Co. as the team responsible for the animation. Other topics discussed include the lack of intelligence from each featured character, Bruce Wayne’s body dysmorphia, a soundtrack that introduces electric guitar for the first time to the DCAU soundtrack, speculation on the purpose of the cliffhanger ending, and an in-depth look at “Werewolfism.” Plus our hosts preview next week’s episode and highlight some connections from this episode to the larger DCAU continuity.

Hard to believe we are already kicking off the month of August, but the calendar never lies, so the Good Brothers are kicking off the month with a return to where It all began, with Batman: The Animated Series episode “Tyger, Tyger.” The hosts discuss the H.G. Wells novel on which the episode is loosely inspired, the unsettling feelings one host has from some of the character designs,  a soundtrack that hits its spots where it has to, why it doesn’t make sense where this episode falls in production order, a struggle to find the moral of the story, and some Fleischer Superman vibes.
