Junior year has been... a wild ride, to say the least. But I've learned a lot from it, and I hope that you can learn from my experience, too!!
I want to state something very quickly: the majority of Asian-Americans are NOT racist. But the fact that some are, that some hold onto racist ideas, must be altered. And to those of you whom this episode impacted: please remember that change requires empathy as well as passion and conviction. Understanding your opposition is not synonymous with acceptance. To influence someone else, before you emotionally react to their beliefs, seek to educate them and express yourself. And most importantly, LISTEN to your black black brothers and sisters. I believe in you. Let's make the world a better place!!
And, by the way, if you listened to this and left confused because you think black Americans already have equality... please do some research.
Sorry for funky audio!! T^T
Some swanky DeBakey alumni talk about life after DeBakey. It's an hour long, man, you may as well hit play instead of trying to read a summary.
The editing for this episode was a mONSTER. But what matters is that I made it through! Thank you so much to Daanish, Emily, Jennifer, and Ricqueben from DeBakey's Class of 2019 for coming on the podcast - you guys are the best!! :)
Happy New Year!! I literally recorded this on my phone with wire earbuds, so that’s why the audio’s kinda wonky, but I hope it makes you smile :) Let’s all move into 2020 with some hope for the future! We’re all in this together, and we’ve got this!! :D
This is just a fun episode!! I hope it made you laugh, and I hope that helped to remind you of all the spicy stuff you have to be grateful for. :) Abby wON'T STOP STROKING THE MIC, but this is still best heard with headphones!!
How can you get better grades? (God, wouldn't I like to know LOL.) How do you approach the numbers in your gradebook, how does it influence your mindset, and how good is that for you -- especially at DeBakey?
(WARNING: SUPER ASMR-LIKE, PROB BEST TO LISTEN TO WHEN IT'S LATE BC IT'S NOT A HIGH-ENERGY EP.)
I will warn you that this ep is definitely very ASMR-sounding, especially because I tried to speak quietly (to not wake anyone up) and because it got hard to talk after I got into my feelings for a bit. Even so, I hope you enjoy this mostly-raw episode where I kind of just blabbed until the timestamp reached a shocking 35 minutes and I made myself shut up. :)
Making friends is hard regardless of what school you go to. We're all in the same boat, though, so we hope that, through either the advice given in this episode or us talking about our own experiences, we can help you feel a little less lonely.
