After seven months in public school, we made the decision to return to homeschooling—but the journey taught us so much more than I ever expected. In this episode, I share what our experience was really like, the changes I witnessed in my son, and the moment I realized we needed to take a different path. We talk about advocating for our children, honoring their individuality, and the value of time spent together. If there’s one thing I hope you take away from our story, it’s that you’re allowed to change direction when something isn’t working. Your family’s journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

Two years ago, my family and I moved 2,600 miles across the country with every intention of continuing to homeschool. Just three days after arriving in Montana, our son was enrolled in public school.
So, what happened?
In this episode of The Deep End, I’m sharing the story behind that unexpected decision, the burnout and self-doubt I carried with me, and why I ultimately felt we needed to experience life on the other side of homeschooling.
That year brought challenges, successes, and some lessons I never could have learned by staying on the path I thought we were supposed to follow. It changed the way I understood my son, his need for freedom and autonomy, and my own calling as a mother.
I also learned that stepping away from homeschooling doesn't mean you've failed, and changing direction doesn't mean you have to stay on that path forever.
Sometimes, you need to take a different road to understand where you were meant to go all along.
Join me for an honest conversation about motherhood, unexpected detours, and learning to trust the process—even when life doesn't unfold the way you planned.
Because sometimes, the choices that don't turn out the way we expected teach us the most.
Welcome to The Deep End—where we talk honestly about homeschooling, motherhood, life, and everything in between. No perfection, just real life.

Why did I quit homeschooling—and what ultimately brought me back?
In this episode of The Deep End, I’m opening up about a time in our homeschooling journey when I felt so overwhelmed, burnt out, and unsure of myself that I decided to walk away from it altogether.
I’m sharing the honest truth about what led us to quit, including the isolation of feeling like the odd one out, the exhaustion of juggling motherhood and teaching, the struggles with schoolwork and meltdowns, the pressure to prove that homeschooling was working, and the self-doubt that came with worrying about what other people thought.
Looking back, I can see how I was putting too much pressure on myself, trying to recreate the traditional school experience at home, and losing sight of why I wanted to homeschool in the first place.
But here's the thing: quitting wasn't the end of our homeschooling story. The lessons I learned through that experience ultimately brought us back to homeschooling with a different perspective, a better understanding of my children, and a renewed appreciation for the freedom this lifestyle can offer.
In this conversation, I’m sharing the advice that changed everything for me, along with practical things you can do if you're feeling isolated, burnt out, or questioning whether you can keep going.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re cut out for homeschooling, felt guilty for struggling, or questioned whether stepping away means you’ve failed, this episode is for you.
Because sometimes, changing direction is exactly what we need to find our way back.

In this episode, I'm talking about one of the things I believe is most beautiful about homeschooling: the freedom to let our children discover who they are and what they truly love.
Homeschooling doesn't have to be about creating the "perfect" school at home or checking every box. It can be about giving our kids the time and space to follow their curiosity, explore their interests, and discover passions that might otherwise get overlooked.
I also talk about something I wish more parents would do when homeschooling keeps popping up in their brains... research it. You don't have to commit to homeschooling to learn about it. Explore your options, understand what homeschooling can actually look like, and consider whether the freedom and flexibility could benefit your individual child.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to education. The goal isn't to choose what works for everyone else... it's to thoughtfully discover what works best for YOUR child and YOUR family.
