Why do arteries age—and can that process actually be reversed?

In this episode of The Deeper Healing Podcast, host Danielle Howley sits down with Dr. Michael Bauerschmidt, MD, CCT to break down the science behind Drea’s improvement in arterial health.

Using her case as a starting point, Dr. B explains how arterial aging is measured through a carotid ultrasound, which evaluates the thickness of the artery wall—a key marker of cardiovascular risk. Despite having no obvious symptoms, Drea’s arteries had aged beyond her years. Through targeted treatment, she was able to restore them back to normal.

At the center of this approach is phosphatidylcholine IV (Plaquex), a compound essential for rebuilding cell membranes, transporting fats and cholesterol, and helping dissolve plaque buildup within the arteries.

Alongside this, chelation therapy plays a critical role by removing heavy metals like mercury and lead—substances that can damage cells, disrupt protective enzymes, and trigger plaque formation in the first place.

Together, these therapies address both sides of arterial disease:

Removing the underlying cause (toxic metals) and repairing the damage (plaque and weakened cell membranes).
