Editorial Reviews:
Narrator Hayden Lee keeps listeners' attention on the mysterious and deadly events in this crime story set in 18th-century Japan. Fourteen-year-old Seikei must help his adopted father, the famous samurai Judge Ooka, investigate the terrible murders of a number of Edo's geishas and whether they're related to the strange fires appearing throughout the city. Lee picks up the pace when Seikei goes undercover as a teahouse attendant in the floating world of Yoshiwara's pleasure seekers. Listeners will be stunned by unexpected turns of this story as it builds up to its unpredictable ending.

Good continuation of Seikei's story
My 7th grade students used this book to supplement our reading of the first novel in the series, The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn. The Hooblers did a great job creating characters that help readers understand the world of medieval Japan. We even contacted the Hooblers to ask some questions about the books, and they graciously responded.
A fantastic follow up to an amazing original story
A fantastic follow up to an amazing original story. Though this story takes place in the pleasure district of ancient Edo in Japan, it does a good job weaving a tight story about love and honor with out being seedy in any way. A great read to remind one about what honor is really is.
Four Stars
The Hooblers just keep on giving more to contemplate.
