Is now the time to right a fifty year old wrong?
The North Denver neighborhoods of Swansea, Elyria, and Globeville were established long before 1964, the year that they were bisected by the construction of I-70. Over fifty years later, the area and its residents are still feeling the negative effects of its neighborhood interstate in numerous ways.
Now the Colorado Department of Transportation says I-70 must be rebuilt, and in building for the future is potentially ignoring the lessons from our past. Is expanding I-70 through part of North Denver the best solution? Is there a better alternative?
In this episode of The Denver Podcast we speak with Steve Kinney, a Denver resident who is fighting hard to get CDOT to consider re-routing I-70 to a less populated area. He argues that doing so will be better for commuters, north area residents, and all of Denver.
