Let's get ourselves right back into the mix and mess up the mix and mix up the mess.

Back in the early 80's, there was a band called Pantera and it featured the Abbot Brothers, Rex Brown, but not Phil Anselmo.

It's well known to the metal community that this lineup of the band did get into the studio and release four albums, they refuse to re-release those indie albums they did. So, in true Department of Metal Antiquities fashion, Duncan and Nik get all up in the business of Metal Magic.

At the end of 1983, something unique happened. Two masters of glam rock and glam pop rock got together and wrote a song. Those two greats would be Neal Schon of Journey and Sammy Hagar of Montrose, solo, and later Van Halen.

Joined by a tight rhythm section, they took the show on the road and that's largely how they recorded the album as well.

Sometimes it's hard to believe how things just get lost. Here's a great example of that. Back in the middle 90's some really cool stuff was happening in the Van Halen camp and everybody thought something big was going down.

Sammy was out, DLR was in then out, and Gary Cherone was IN. Come along as Nik details seeing the Cherone led Van Halen live and gives you the history of a very turbulent time in Van Halen's history.
