Mike Graff and Michael Jerome Moore are DFW music royalty. Both grew up in the Deep Ellum area music scene of the 80's and 90's. We talk about their music history as individuals and bandmates. Mike & Michael Jerome released several albums with their bandmates in Course of Empire and continue to write and record music together in Halls of the Machine. Both bands have upcoming vinyl releases. Additionally, we talk about Michael Jerome's time in Pop Poppins which also has an upcoming vinyl release.

Judge Eric Moyé is a friend and was my nextdoor neighbor for 7 years. He presides over the 14th Civil District Court in Dallas, TX and has done so since 2008. Judge Moyé (Eric) grew up in NY, attended undergrad at SMU, and Harvard Law School. He was the first African American hired by a national law firm in Dallas, TX in 1979. You most likely heard about Eric during the height of the pandemic when he ordered a Dallas salon owner to a week in jail for not adhering to an executive order issued by Governor Abbott. I've known Eric to be one of the most principled guys in my life, thoughtful, and incredibly kind. Ask him how he's doing, and he always responds with "Ain't nobody better than me." That's a mindset all of us could use more often.

This week I’m talking with good friend and professional musician, Michael Jerome Moore. Michael Jerome has been the drummer in Better than Ezra since 2009. He’s played with several other incredible artists, including Richard Thompson, Toadies, Course of Empire, James Hall, Pop Poppins, and Halls of the Machine. Recently, Michael Jerome plays drums on Slash’s (Guns N’ Roses) latest solo album, “Orgy of the Damned”. Michael and I talk about growing up around music, his experience working with different artists, and his dependence on his network and wife (Emma) has impacted his career. This morning I spent some time reading through an old journal and came across the first time I wrote about The Dependence in 2019. Around that time I’d also made notes about an article I read, “The 2 Mental Shifts Highly Successful People Make” written by Benjamin Hardy, and it reminded me of some of my conversation with Ryan in the previous episode. Ryan Harrison is a former American tennis professional and French Open Doubles champion. He is one of the youngest players to win a match on the ATP tour, alongside Richard Gasquet and Raphael Nadal. Ryan reached a career-high top 40 in men's singles on the ATP tour and won the Memphis Open Singles event in 2017. Post his retirement from the ATP tour, Ryan is continuing his career in the tennis community as a broadcaster and analyst. He is also working to develop players at the Harrison Tennis Academy.
