SACRED DRUM BEATS VISION FOR WORLD PEACE
An exceptional sacred drum from North America will visit Australia soon as
part of a world tour. Known as the Grandmother drum, it was conceived
through shamanic vision.
The drum leads audiences in interactive performances so powerful that some
have experienced spontaneous resolution of physical conditions such as ear
infections. Most, however, feel a deep sense of inner peace and connection
with others.
‘At a time when there are few good news stories around, the Grandmother
Drum and its people represent a truly inspiring project to help build
communities,’ said Ken Jacobs, World Music Promotions, Gold Coast,
Australia.
The huge drum, 7-foot in diameter and the largest of its kind, has an
extraordinary harmonic range. It is made of over 1,500 strips of cedar and
birch wood, 200 inlaid quartz crystals and a single buffalo hide.
The drum was created from a vision by Suraj Holzwarth, known as White
Eagle Medicine Woman. In the vision 13 women, all elders from different
ethnic groups and tribes throughout the Americas, gave instructions for the
drum’s unique construction. Members of the Alaskan community built it in
2001.
The purpose of the 13 Grandmothers was to emulate the heartbeat of
humanity and in so doing bring peace, reunification and greater care of the
natural environment. It’s a message that’s being well received with the
Grandmother Drum leading peace drum performances in some 360 cities
around the world. It’s in demand at conferences, festivals and in communities
