In this episode Amy really pushed me out of my comfort zone and talked about topics I'm not used to talking about publicly! I'm so grateful for her and what she's doing because we ALL need to be talking about this and encouraging the youth to be comfortable talking about it too! Amy is an advocate and teaches parents how to have sexuality and relationship conversions with their children!

A sexual health educator for over 27 years, Amy combined her expertise in adult education and sexual health and started Birds & Bees & Kids in 2006. Through her classes, books, and online solutions center she has helped thousands of parents learn how to talk with their kids about sexuality and relationships. With a certificate in neurodiversity and sexuality, she offers specialized programs designed to support parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children.

I had such a great time talking with my guest, April, on this episode! She brings such a wonderful persepctive of hearing loss in your early 20s. She is honest and open while sharing her story and I know you'll learn a lot about hearing loss through listening to hear story!

Teresa is an amazing story teller and I'm so grateful to have learned so much from her all about hearing loss! It's a must listen!

Teresa's Bio

Teresa Barnes Paulus, RN, is an advocate for hearing awareness. With her personal experience of hearing loss since birth, Teresa has become the go-to expert for organizations looking to tap into a trillion-dollar market by enhancing any organization's social responsibility and culture.

After a potentially life-threatening accident for not hearing a warning shout. She saw a need in society as a former Emergency Department RN Manager. Teresa realized the critical lack of accommodations for the hard of hearing in workplaces. She pioneered the federally registered Hearing Hero Friendly Symbol, a tool that boosts safety and awareness while increasing business opportunities and customer satisfaction through specialized training and certification. Based on the Olmec Culture 2500 BC standards where they believed people with hearing loss needed a special way to communicate and wore a jade Olmec symbol to bring visibility to hearing loss. 

Featured on ESPN BizShow and Good Morning America in San Diego. She drives change with consultancy, keynotes, online courses, and a new book called Be A Hearing Hero to alert others that by 2050, 2.5 billion will have hearing loss unless we change our environments and hearing loss knowledge. Teresa empowers others alongside her service dog, Stella, encouraging everyone to become Hearing Heroes in today's diverse world. For future acceptance and understanding, so no more discrimination against hearing loss, but better inclusion. 

Hearing Hero Friendly Spaces can allow those with hearing loss to hear others, potentially prevent hearing loss for babies in utero, and provide space for others that need, say, a quieter place to dine that have PTSD, anxiety disorder, autism, or want to save their hearing.

Help prevent this health and social issue and reduce stigma, too with with understanding.

Oh my goodness, this episode was SO fun! Rebeka and I met when I was a Keynote speaker last year (2024) in Reno, NV. We became fast friends! Rebeka's story and the work she does is not only inspirational, it's needed now more than ever! Rebeka Acosta is Nevada’s first Board Certified Patient Advocate and the Founder of A+J Patient Advocacy. After a 15-year career in healthcare business, she welcomed two children with complex medical conditions to her family. Those years pushed Rebeka to create a place where support and information would be readily available for families in need.

Rebeka is published in medical journals, has presented at national and state conferences, and was recognized as Pediatric Advocate of the Year at the 2023 Healthcare Advocate Summit. When not advocating, Rebeka enjoys curating a large house plant collection and floating in the pool. She lives in Las Vegas with her husband and two teens.
