In order to maintain church purity, those who profess to be Christians and are “sexually immoral or greedy, or an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler” (1 Cor. 5:11) are excommunicated. Expelling them from fellowship with the church is not easy. However, biblically practicing church discipline must be done in order to obey Christ and keep the local church from being corrupted. It is not humility that tolerates sin. Paul tells those at Corinth it is arrogance that caused them to not remove the wicked person from among them.
