About MJ Cole -

One of U.K. garage's first true stars, MJ Cole's work has spanned Mercury Prize-nominated albums and a lengthy career as a remixer and producer. His widely praised 2000 debut Sincere was a landmark release for the genre, taking the pirate radio-bred sound aboveground by emphasizing its soul and R&B influences. Following 2003's Cut to the Chase, a guest-heavy set that touched on U.K. hip-hop and ragga, Cole remained busy remixing artists like Mariah Carey and Amy Winehouse, collaborating with artists ranging from Dizzee Rascal to Bruno Mars, and continually exploring rhythms with his solo EPs and singles. He returned to his classical roots with 2020's MJ Cole Presents Madrugada.

While growing up in London, Cole studied the oboe and piano, ultimately earning a degree in music from City University. He also immersed himself in electronic music culture, working as a tape operator and engineer for the drum'n'bass label SOUR. Cole issued a breakbeat single as Morf in 1995. While working on Ramsey & Fen's 2-step remixes for Kym Mazelle in 1996, he caught the garage bug and worked on numerous productions as well as remixes for Soul II Soul, Goldie, Gwen McRae, Another Level, and State of Mind. He started releasing garage singles under his own name in 1997, and a few as Box Clever, including one of the first releases on Prolific Recordings, which he founded in 1998. 

Cole's song "Sincere," recorded using a sampler and Atari, was released via AM:PM the same year, and was one of the first Top 40-charting garage singles. Soon after, Cole signed to Gilles Peterson's Talkin' Loud label, which released the "Crazy Love" single in May 2000 and the full-length Sincere that July. The album's quick, crisp production style earned him a Brit Award nomination as well as a Mercury Prize nomination.

Cole released another album, 2003's Cut to the Chase with Talkin' Loud, before leaving the label in 2004. That year, he began releasing a steady stream of singles and EPs on Prolific, issuing collaborations with Tubby T, Wiley, and Elisabeth Troy (who had previously sung on "Crazy Love"). During this time, he remixed artists such as Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, and Mariah Carey, took his DJ set on the road, and composed music for television ad campaigns. His own Riddim EP appeared in 2010. 

Over the next several years, he co-wrote songs with Jimmy Napes and Sam Smith, remixed tracks by Jess Glynne and Adam F, and produced tracks for Dizzee Rascal and Katy B while also finding time to release his own music on the Panoramic EP. Lobster Boy Records issued the single "Alcatraz" in 2016. The following year, he returned with "Shelter" featuring Bruno Major, the DJ Zinc collaboration "Interbass," and the solo single "Pictures in My Head." The material kept on coming in 2018 with the Kojey Radical collaboration "Soak It Up," the Foundations EP, and "Waking Up" featuring Freya Ridings.

2020 saw Cole release his first album in 17 years, one he had always wanted to make. Inspired by his early classical background, Presents Madrugada, released on Decca, was an instrumental album of piano and strings with a soaring, transcendent, filmic quality. In 2021, Cole collaborated with Rudimental and Josh Barry on the single "Remember Their Names." ~ Heather Phares & Paul Simpson

About Lady Waks -

I am Alexandra, painter, graphic designer, graffiti artist and musician. In a word, an artist.

Born in 1982 in Leningrad. I have been inseparable from drawing since early childhood: one day my parents sent me to an art school, which determined my whole future. Throughout my life, my work has changed, opened up from new sides, acquired unexpected forms, but fine art has definitely become my destiny.

In the early 1990s, I moved to Germany, where I graduated from the private art school Freie Waldorfschule. There she met her first great creative "love" - ​​street art. I became interested in them in Hannover, where I had the good fortune to work side by side with famous graffiti artists. For the next few years, I decorated the streets of different cities with my drawings, working under the pseudonym WAKS.

I did not leave street art, and when I returned to my native St. Petersburg, I only changed my pseudonym to a mirror one - SKAW. By that time I had developed my own recognizable style, my graffiti began to appear more and more often on the pages of Western magazines and books devoted to contemporary art, such as Graffiti World by Nicholas Ganz. But I felt that within the framework of street art I was getting crowded, I needed to move on, expand my creative horizons. Therefore, I entered the University of Culture and Arts at the Faculty of Media Design.

In the early 2000s, the next chapter of my creative life began - I became interested in music. She moved to Berlin again, went headlong into a new hobby: she wrote tracks under the third pseudonym LADY WAKS in her life. The next 10 years were basically one big tour with performances up to six times a week.

But the love of painting and drawing has not gone away: I just redirected it into graphic design, creating numerous music covers, logos and posters. Later, my experience in this field allowed me to create my own creative design agency.

In 2018 I returned to painting. Now I live and work in St. Petersburg.

My style combines all my creative experience: it is a synthesis of academic skills acquired at the university, techniques from street art and graphic design. In general, it can be called abstract painting, which conveys my vision of the world, my feelings and emotions.

About Drasen -

Imagine yourself floating euphorically through the infinite expanse of the cosmos. Recall a time when you freely embraced the marvel of our Earth’s scenery. Unlimited, Unrestrained and Boundless are the feelings inspiring the ambitious sounds of Drasen.

“Being in the presence of something truly stunning & all-pervading is the ultimate feeling I try to capture. I want to erase musical boundaries and have my work inspire a new generation of creativity & higher consciousness. I will do whatever it takes to get there.” he says.

Going by his real name, Drasen started editing music in early high school and went on to perform at major venues across the nation. Inspired by the diverse assortment of cultures and experiences from his birthplace of South Florida, Drasen is carving out his own lane with his roots in House Music.

“My goal is to have a sound that transcends culture through all people. What really means the most to me is if my music makes you feel deeply, or inspires my fellow creators. There is no greater gift than that.”

Drasen’s music captures a presence of universal emotion, devoid of musical boundaries. Forging sounds of higher consciousness and transcendent beats, Drasen hopes to inspire a new generation of creativity and spiritual growth for mankind.

Boris on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 7/11/22

About Boris -

It’s all about the music. New York stalwart and beloved DJ, Boris, lives by that statement each and every day. He is a man wearing many hats; one as a touring DJ, another as a producer dynamo and lastly as a label boss of Transmit Recordings. 

A career forged over decades of long nights in the Big Apple’s most revered rooms. From the infamous Roxy to Crobar to the once dominating Pacha NY on 46th Street, Boris maintained a following so devout, so loyal they were truly ‘Believers’. Pioneering a music movement in a city filled with those who have so little time to pay attention, Boris has been a production powerhouse when not performing for the masses. 

He’s been tapped by industry leaders such as Carl Cox for his label Intec, Dubfire for his label Sci-Tec, Paco Osuna and his Mindshake records, amongst countless others.

His ability behind the decks and in the studio has not only made him a New York favorite, but his music has taken him places all around the world ranging from the shores of Playa Del Carmen to the magical White Isle known as Ibiza. Known to many as the ‘DJ’s DJ’, Boris has had the career most DJs can only wish to have. 

The trends may change but the New York native has stayed true to his drum driven sounds and created his own niche in the wide and vast world of electronic music. Taking bits and pieces from every part of the globe he visits, Boris always maintains a piece of home in his music.

Even though his career spans nearly three decades, the journeyman DJ has yet to falter. We currently find him playing leading to destinations across the globe and his music is in high demand with forthcoming releases of many sought after labels, Boris will is constantly on the tips of the younger generation’s tongue. Why? Because talent, like wine, gets better with age.

Avian Invasion on the Mobile Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 7/1/22

About Avian Invasion -

Avian Invasion used to be just a man, but a very old one. As he grew older, vital functions began to fail: He lost the ability to hope and, with it, the ability to dream. His eyes began to fail, so all he could see was darkness and fear. His hearing faded to a point where every new song only sounded “not as good as music used to be.”

All of this took a toll on his heart, until eventually that too threatened to break.

One day, when it seemed he would finally just wither and turn to dust, he was given a great gift. He was rebuilt, piece by piece… the broken parts replaced, the damaged parts repaired. Now he isn’t entirely a man, but not entirely a machine either.

He is simply Avian Invasion, and all he can see now is hope. The Bird’s melody-driven, dynamic performances have been showcased at venues like The Underground and Rendezvous in Seattle.
