  • Civic Media Spotlight for the Weekend of April 5th & 6th (Hour 1)

It’s a really remarkable journey. And as parents, Chari and Kon Knueppel are enjoying every step of the way. The Milwaukee area couple’s oldest son, Kon, Jr., is a player on the Duke University basketball team. He’s a Freshman but is having quite a season. The Blue Devils will be playing in the Final Four – and with a win, there’s a chance to earn a spot in NCAA championship game. Chari and Kon are trying to attend every game. They joined John Maino and Jim Schmidt, hosts of Maino and the Mayor, to share the pride they’re feeling regarding their son’s accomplishments, and a brief update on why you may want to keep an eye on their other boys, too.  (Kon will likely go in the 10th round of the NBA draft!)

Then, on Wednesday's Matenaer On Air show, the election is over, the ballots are (mostly) counted and Wisconsin is breathing a sigh of relief as the results show that we, the people are not for sale. Jane, Greg and Calvin give an overview of the election results and discuss what this means for Wisconsin and the country, going forward. They take calls from the listeners and read texts, as well who very happy to share their thoughts with the gang about Tuesday night.

After that, the Maggie Daun Show is joined by Gbenga Ajilore (Banga A 'as in apple'-juh-loree), Chief Economist at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Maggie and Gbenga discuss Trump's Liberation Day tariffs and their impact on farming and rural communities.

In the hour's final segment, Cliff Wall and Sam Vainisi join the Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba. Sam is the brother of Jack Vainisi, who is in the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. Sam and Cliff share their pitch for why Jack's name should be considered for the NFL Hall of Fame.

  • Now tell us something good! (Hour 2)

Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review, joins us as cohost for this final day of the Dom Salvia Show. We covered a bit of news in the first hour. Now let’s get to the good stuff. At the beginning of this year, Jess P-S (hi, that’s me, writing all these podcasts) convinced Dom to start a new segment. Each day, at the end of the show, we asked you to tell us something good. I felt it was necessary, what with so much of the news being so awful every day. And so I asked Dom if we could use the last segment of the day to refocus, recenter, and prioritize what really matters- our connections and the joy we find in life. And (almost) every day since, we’ve ended the show with something good.

Now, for one last hour, we ask you to tell us something good. And we’ll tell ya something good in return.

  • Thank You (Hour 1)

Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review, joins us as cohost for this final day of the Dom Salvia Show. There’s a bit of news to cover today, but mostly we’re here to celebrate 7 months of the Dom Salvia Show and Dom’s 13 years in radio! On the news side, we cover continued fallout from President Trump’s tariffs and the increasing likelihood that members of Trump’s DoJ will face contempt charges in federal court. Oh yeah, and AG Josh Kaul dropped the entire ball in his lawsuit against Musk right before the spring election. We also talk with Ajak Johnson, organizer for wome of the Wisconsin 50501 “hands off” protests for democracy and against Elon Musk. But beyond that, we really want to use this hour to thank you, the listeners. Thank you for being along with us on this ride, for listening, calling, texting, and rocking!

  • Trump Slump (Hour 2)

Earl Ingram, Civic morning show host, joins us as cohost. In this hour we continue our discussion on the disastrous effects of the Trump tariffs. Yesterday, our President announced, in a flurry of lies, untruths, and falsehoods, massive tariffs. Over the past two months, Trump has vacillated on tariffs, imposing, revoking, raising, and lowering them seemingly at whims. These actions directly affect US, We the People. He and his income bracket buddies won’t feel this pain. The rest of us will. And the shockwaves of these tariffs will disrupt world trade for years to come. We’re calling the oncoming economic mess the Trump Slump and we invite you to join us in that!

At the end of the show, Dom and Jess share some news. Tomorrow will be the final day of the Dom Salvia Show. Not because of any Trump Slump, just because life happens! Join us tomorrow for a joyous celebration of all this show has been!

  • Good is possible, let's work for it! (Hour 1)

Earl Ingram, Civic morning show host, joins us as cohost. As we reflect on the Supreme Court election in Wisconsin, we consider good. We celebrate the victory of democracy in selecting Susan Crawford to be our next Justice while rejecting oligarchy and authoritarianism. At the same time, this was the most expensive judicial race in American history. With around $100 million spent on this race, we wonder how much good we could have done with that money invested in our community rather than on mud slinging ads and endless pieces of mail. Especially when federal funding cuts continue to pummel the most vulnerable amongst us. Today, we learn that Wisconsin food banks will lose millions of dollars from USDA cuts. This hurts Wisconsin. And it’s only 2% of the cost of the election. Why can’t we work together for good???

And on the matter of Tuesday’s election… we’ve got another bout of deniers. It’s not those pesky Milwaukee ballots this time. No, now it’s the old favorite: mail in ballots. I know you can’t see it, but we’re rolling our eyes real hard.
