George Pickens is back on the field for Dallas Cowboys mandatory minicamp, and that is easily one of the biggest stories from Day 1. After missing voluntary OTAs, Pickens was in the building, working through individual drills, and continuing his ramp-up as the Cowboys prepare for training camp.

In this video, we break down why Pickens showing up matters so much, how his reputation and PR issues from Pittsburgh have followed him into Dallas, and why a holdout never really made sense if he wants to maximize his next contract and extend his NFL career.

We also get into Brian Schottenheimer’s comments about leadership on the defensive side of the ball, why that was such a major issue for the Cowboys last season, and how veterans like Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary, Malik Hooker, DaRon Bland, Trevon Diggs, and others could help change the standard in 2026. The Cowboys coaching staff continues to be one of the biggest storylines of the offseason. Christian Parker has put a major emphasis on fundamentals, communication, technique, and accountability, and that is already showing up in practice. Jane Slater reported that linebackers were using resistance bands while hitting tackling sleds to help with hand placement, which is a small detail, but it says a lot about how deliberate this new staff is trying to be.

We also talk about Malachi Lawrence getting first-team outside linebacker reps across from Rashan Gary while Donovan Ezeiruaku continues working back from offseason hip surgery. Lawrence even had pressure on Dak Prescott that could have been a sack, making him one of the more interesting young names to watch heading into training camp.

Dak Prescott was also back in team drills and looked good, including a deep sideline throw to CeeDee Lamb that only No. 88 had a chance to catch. So while there was some concern about Dak being limited, the early minicamp reports were much more encouraging than anything worth overreacting to.

And finally, we discuss quarterback Brendan Sorsby entering the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft, why he is such an interesting developmental quarterback prospect, and whether the Cowboys should have any interest. Sorsby has a big frame, athletic ability, rushing upside, a strong arm, and playmaking ability outside of structure, but his off-field situation and reported sports betting violations make this a complicated evaluation.

Dallas Cowboys OTAs continued with Day 2 of media availability, and the practice gave us several important storylines to discuss.
