  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Stanley M Berry and Brian Collins
Stanley M. Berry is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician who has provided care to women with high risk pregnancies for 37 years. Although Dr. Berry has authored or co-authored a large number of medical publications, is his debut novel. The author was born and raised in Minnesota, and from age eight, lived in a working class north Minneapolis neighborhood.

His professional musician and music teacher father, along with his social worker and university faculty member mother, passed to him a love of music, reading, and a respect for hard work. A major in English literature was his goal as an undergraduate freshman, but after floundering and dropping in and out of college over a four year period, he read Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell To Arms, and like the novel’s protagonist, the author joined an ambulance service in Minneapolis and was trained as an emergency paramedic.

He found his calling and was eventually admitted to medical school where he graduated in 1984. Although he refers to himself as a, “failed English major,” Dr. Berry never lost his passion for creative writing or his goal of communicating his ideas about the world of medicine and medical research through the medium of fiction.

Brian Collins, B. Comm, accountant, has been an entrepreneur since the age of 31, when he quit his job with a large American customs and trucking company where he was C.F.O for the Canadian region. Brian got the fever to be his own boss and has not looked back. He started four businesses, all in very different business sectors, with zero experience in any of those fields. In Step Off the Porch and Start Your Own Business, he shares the steps he took to create, shape, incorporate, fund, market, and handle all issues, from lawsuits, tax problems to staff concerns, when starting a new business venture. He also discusses his “6 Rules for Success,” which he coined for himself.

The book covers 31 years and four projects; each business and its solution offers an example for the reader to learn techniques to structure their own dream business, and what they may encounter along the way to success.

April’s doc “Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of the American Drive-in Movie” enjoyed a theatrical release in 2013. Having visited over 500 open, abandoned, and former sites of drive-ins in 49 states, April has been recognized as a historian and supporter of drive-ins, appearing in media like Time, USA Today, Parade, BBC World News, WGN Radio, The Chicago Tribune, CNN online, CBC. Leonard Maltin appears in the doc and Forbes, called it “a richly crafted look at our passion for movie theaters.” She’s in post-production on two new documentaries: “Back to the Drive-in” goes behind the headlines of the drive-in resurgence to show the truth that families are struggling to keep them alive, and “Carnival” a finalist for Tribeca’s IF/THEN at Big Sky Film Festival, is about a family that forms within a traveling carnival in the northwest.

April worked as a narrative programmer for the Sundance Film Festival and AFI Fest for over 15 years, which was a wonderful film education. She has an MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University and is an alumni of the Sundance Institute, member of Women in Film, Film Fatales, Film Independent, the Documentary Association and the Alliance of Women Directors.

Stu's career in television and broadcasting dates back to the early 1970s when he began as an audience coordinator for game shows and sitcoms. In 1982, he received his performing break when he was given an opportunity to do the audience warm-up at the popular situation comedy, "Diff'rent Strokes". Stu has also done warm-ups for "The Jeffersons", "Mama's Family", "Amen", and many others.

Behind the scenes, he's been the owner/operator of Shokus Video, a company dedicated to the preservation of 1950s TV shows on DVD and video tape, since 1979. He was also the producer and director of "The Jack La Lanne Show Commemorative Special" home video, as well as Lucille Ball's personal film archivist for the last ten years of her life.

He produced, wrote, and directed a bonus featurette for Shout! Factory's "Leave it to Beaver - The Complete Series" DVD box set that starred the series' Ken Osmond and Frank Bank (Eddie and Lumpy), along with supplying a generous amount of vintage archival footage and several "Stu's Show" interviews for the release.
