  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Lora DeVore
Born into poverty and violence, Lora’s early life was one of extreme vulnerability. She was prostituted for the first time at the age of nine and suffered unspeakable treatment from those who should have protected her. The impact of this early trauma led to her institutionalization soon after she started college, an incarceration she would not have survived but for a courageous nurse who fought for her release.

Fifty years later, after a long career as a successful mental health professional, and recognized as leading educator and sought-after public speaker, Lora revisited the grounds of the Illinois state mental hospital where she was once kept in inhumane, degrading, and life-threatening circumstances. This profound and compelling memoir traces her life as a survivor of child abuse, sex trafficking, illegal pharmacological drug research, and institutional abuse.

Having experienced such horrifying and traumatic events, how did she survive? And to what purpose? Seeking the resolution to these unanswered questions, Lora’s experiences illuminate and validate the power of love and the strength of the indomitable human spirit that lives within each one of us. This is her story.

    DARKNESS WAS MY CANDLE.

  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Ben Rood
My name is Ben Rood. I’m a writer, director and producer from Cincinnati, OH. The interesting points of my life can be boiled down to this: I had braces three times. After that I freaked my parents out when I was 15 and told them I wanted to make a living as a filmmaker. I got into Ohio University's Scripps School of Communications where I crushed cheap beer and occasionally class.

Moved to L.A. Worked freelance on some big commercials and TV shows.
When freelance wasn't there, I installed trees for rich people to pay bills and keep the lights on (this gig was crazy, I ruined Courteney Cox's floor one day. On another, I had a panic attack in front of Charlize Theron when I was trying to show off my muscles and a spider crawled on me. I once sold a tree to a homeless lady from Jupiter, or so she claimed. Haven't fact-checked). The job resulted in a back injury. Went broke.

Moved home to live in my parents' basement (awesome ice breaker for meeting ladies. Not). Saved money. Became a firefighter while making a movie over the course of 3 years. Got the movie noticed enough to acquire a financial backer and producing partner for my next movie. And here we are about to release it. Movers Ultimate streams August 19th.

  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Jerry Spriggs
Jerry Spriggs, B.A., M.S., is a retired instructional designer, having designed curricula and developed training strategies and materials for the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and numerous Fortune 500 corporations. His career stemmed from his interest in game design. How we elect our president via the Electoral College began as a curiosity, grew into a hobby, developed into a passion, and is now a beast of truth he must water and feed every day. Jerry and his wife live in Oregon.

The author admits to having not come from a political background: not a politician, not an attorney, not a political science professor, and not strongly active in any political party. That background, he claims, actually gave him an advantage when originating the Equal Voice Voting approach and in writing All Votes Matter!

He started with an evaluation of the voting mechanism and a desire to make the process fair and equitable rather than starting from a vantage point to favor any political agenda. Recognizing, too, that most people do not really understand how the Electoral College works, Jerry exercised the lessons learned from a career in training design and development to frame the book as an instructional tool and to present proof that Equal Voice Voting can increase citizen engagement in our presidential elections.

  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Omar Mora
Born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Omar Mora first turned to a career in medicine, studying to become a doctor in his homeland as well as in Mexico. He then moved to New York City for his medical residency. It was after witnessing the tragedy of September 11th that he decided life was too short not to do everything he wanted, so he decided to pursue his dream of acting.

While a resident in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York, Mora enrolled as a student in the two-year acting program at The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. After finishing both, he moved to Los Angeles to continue both careers. Since relocating, Mora has been building a solid résumé in the independent film world.

In 2012, Mora added writing to his career ambitions. His desire and passion to have audiences know his stories fueled him to write several feature film scripts and, in 2013, he wrote his first literary novel, Ancient Explorers: The Lost City of Peru, which is based on one of his film scripts and is available on Amazon.com

Mora’s current goal is to develop his scripts into feature films through his production company, Moras Productions, Inc. The company’s first short film, A Busy Mind, was distributed by PBS in 2014, and its first feature film, 30 Days with My Brother had a theatrical release (limited) through AMC Theaters across the nation. The movie got release as well on cable VOD (Time Warner Cable) and online VOD release in 2016. Mora became the first Puerto Rican producer to obtain a film distributed at AMC Theaters through AMC Independent.

Moras Productions produced a comic book series called The Unearthians and it was released on July 17th, 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con. Their second feature film, Inside the Circle, was released in September 2021 Worldwide on VOD. Moras is also working on the updated version and making a hybrid novel / comic book of his story Ancient Explorers: The Lost City of Peru, originally published in 2013 and it'll be released in 2022.
Omar Mora is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and the Producer's Guild Of America.

  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Cevin Soling
Cevin Soling’s credits include: “The Gilligan Manifesto,” “The War on Kids,” which was honored as the best educational documentary at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival and was broadcast on Pivot, The Documentary Channel, and The Sundance Channel. “A Hole in the Head,” which documented the potential benefits of boring a hole in one’s skull, aired on The Learning Channel.
“Ikland” documented Soling’s efforts to rediscover the lost Ik tribe of northern Uganda, who were famously disparaged in the early 1970s as the worst people in the world. The NY Times and other major media outlets heralded the film. Among his animation works is “Boris the Dog,” which premiered on MTV. Soling is currently working on “The Summer of Hate,” a documentary on the Beatles’ controversial observations on religion and racism during their 1966 tour of America.

Soling has written a series of nine illustrated books under the heading of “The Rumpleville Chronicles.” Prominent publishing industry reviewer ForeWord Magazine described the books as such: “These quick bursts of cracked brilliance, these splintered bedtime stories for grown folks, have the power to make readers laugh, and then think, then scoff at the futility of thinking.”

One of the books "Tiffany Brittany Brooke" has been made into an animated short film. Soling wrote, directed, and produced the 15-minute film. Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt, whose voices are featured in Marvel’s “Spiderman” video game, provided voice talent. Borrero designed the artwork, and Paul Essenhigh created the animation. Tan Chong Yew composed the film’s score.

  • The Douglas Coleman Show w_ David M Kelly and Richard Stephens
David M. Kelly writes fast-paced, near-future sci-fi thrillers with engaging characters, cynical humor, and plausible science. He is the author of the Joe Ballen series, Logan’s World series, and the Hyperia Jones series, and has been published in Canadian SF magazine Neo-opsis.
David’s interest in science and technology began early. At the age of six his parents allowed him to stay up late into the night to watch the television broadcast of Neil Armstrong stepping on to the surface of the moon. From that day he was hooked on everything related to science and space.

An avid reader, he worked his way through the contents of the mobile library that visited his street, progressing through YA titles (or ‘juveniles’ as they were known back then) on to the classics of Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Harry Harrison.

David worked for many years in project management and software development. Along the way his interests have included IPSC combat (target) pistol shooting, crew chief on a drag racing team, and several years as bass player/vocalist in a heavy rock band. He also managed to fit in some real work in manual jobs from digging ditches and assembly lines jobs to loading trucks in a haulage company.

Born in Simcoe, Ontario, in 1965, I was raised and still reside in Cambridge, Ontario. I began writing circa 1974, a bored child looking for something to while away the long, summertime days. My penchant for reading, 'The Hardy Boys,' led to an inspiration one sweltering summer afternoon, when my best friend and I thought, ‘We could write one of those.’ And so, I did.

As my reading horizons broadened, so did my writing. 'Star Wars' inspired me to write a 600-page novel about outer space that caught the attention of a special teacher, Mr. Woodley, who encouraged me to keep on writing.
A trip to a local book store saw the proprietor introduce me to Stephen R. Donaldson and Terry Brooks. My writing life was forever changed.

At 17, I left high school to join the working world to support my first son. For the next twenty-two years I worked as a shipper at a local bakery. At the age of 36, I went back to high school to complete my education. After graduating with honors at the age of thirty-nine, I became a member of our local Police Service, and worked for 12 years in the provincial court system.

In early 2017, I resigned from the Police Service to pursue my love of writing full-time. With the help and support of my lovely wife Caroline and our 5 children, I have now realized my boyhood dream.
