  • FOP, Behcet's, Rare Disease Day
After introduction and disclaimer, Dr Synonymous (aka, Dr Jonas) comments on recent events with the death of his father in law.  Next he discusses a rare disease: fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP).  He follows information about it through the IFOP web site/ Facebook site, then to NHGRI and OMIM with in depth comments from those sites. He notes a feature about Behcet's Syndrome on the NHGRI site before speaking of National Rare Disease Day, February 28th.  He then reviews Patient and Health Care Blogs including Dr Fat to Fit, Final Trick and Medical Mojave.  Dr Kenny Lin writes about recent medical studies on Common Sense Family Physician. Remember National Rare Disease Day.

  • Didgeridoo Hullabaloo Session Two BellHOP Cafe
I apologize for the broadcast quality.  I was using a WiFi system to broadcast which BTR clearly warns against.  I'll get a hard wire next time.   Join the fun and STOP SNORING ( if that applies to you) by learning to play the didgeridoo.  Dr Synonymous leads this session at the BellHOP Cafe in Bellbrook, OH at 8:15 AM on Feb 9, 2013 with live show and recording on BTR. Learn the drone, laugh with us as we play at other sounds, rhythms and toy with circular breathing.   Dr Jonas, our host, aka, Dr Synonymous will engage other didge players at the BellHOP for comments and demos as appropriate.   Make a didge w/ 4ft long PVC pipe 1 1/2 inch and a male trap adapter with nut- home/plumbing supply places sell these for about $8 total.  OR, get fancy -order from www.didgeridoostore.com $25 plush S&H. Snore less- Avoid Sleep Apnea and the dreaded CPAP mask. Or just learn how to make good rhythm/sound (not good initially).  apj

Dr Synonymous greets listeners, names the coffee of the week and starts with a thorough review of his January 27,2013 blog post: http://drsynonymous.blogspot.com/2013/01/vietnam-peace-plus-forty-years-january.html.  Vietnam:  "Peace" Plus Forty Years includes several photos Dr Jonas took while in Vietnam mid 1970- mid 1971.  He comments on the meaning of the photos to him, providing insights into one perspective about service in Vietnam. He then reviews The American Family Physician article about Iron Deficiency Anemia, Care of Corneal Abrasions and references about Transgender Care.  He comments on the JAMA edition about Hospital Readmissions and the job loitings for Family Physicians in the Journal of Family Practice. He closes with comments about a flashy mailing from his Alma Mater (OSU) the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center about Transforming Sick Care to Health Care.

  • Didgeridoo Hullabaloo Kickoff at the BellHOP Cafe
Ignore the first two minutes if they seem confusing and join us for a didgeridoo lesson as we kick off the Didgeridoo Hullabaloo, a five month adventure in improved breathing, decreased snoring and better health.  The rhythmic skills gained will be satisfying for participants as they blow into a hollow tube and make music (or noise).  See my blog 1/18/2013 for an outline of the session.
